Winona, Minn. - The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse volleyball team opened its season going 3-1 at the Saint Mary's University Ground Round Sugar Loaf Classic Friday and Saturday in Gostomski Fieldhouse.
In Friday's action, the Eagles earned a 3-0 (25-12, 25-21, 25-17) victory over Luther College (Iowa) before falling 3-1 (25-23, 28-26, 18-25, 25-16) to Dominican University (Ill.).
UW-L came back to earn a pair of victories Saturday, with a 3-0 (25-18, 19-25, 25-23, 29-27) win over Lakeland College (Wis.) and 3-0 (25-22, 25-20, 26-24) victory over the College of St. Scholastica (Minn.).
Versus Luther, Jill Entinger and Crystal Ziegler each finished with 10 kills for UW-L. Entinger had 10 kills and zero hitting errors in 18 attempts (.556). She added a team-high six blocks. Haley Molzner finished with seven kills for the Eagles.
Ziegler recorded a double-double with 10 kills and 10 digs. Courtney Geisler led UW-L with 15 digs.
The Eagles hit .168 as a team as Cassie Raduka finished with 28 assists. UW-L had 10.0 team blocks.
In the loss versus Dominican, Ziegler and Leah Putzier led UW-L with 13 kills while Entinger finished with 10. Ziegler hit .268 (13-2-41) while Entinger finished at .409 (10-1-22).
Raduka recorded 41 assists as UW-L hit .217.
Geisler led four players in double figures in digs with 25 while Ziegler finished with 18, Raduka 10 and Ashley Entinger 10.
Against Lakeland, Ziegler had a team-high 20 kills while finishing with three errors in 43 attempts (.395). She also led UW-L with 13 digs. Kayla Ashland recorded 13 kills (13-4-25, .360) while Jill Entinger finished with 12 (12-2-24, .417).
Raduka recorded 51 assists with UW-L hitting .235.
Ashley Entinger had 10 digs.
In the win over St. Scholastica, Lauren Probst had a team-leading 11 kills (11-4-25, .280) while Ziegler, Ashland and Molzner each had eight kills. Ziegler led UW-L with 12 digs.
Raduka had 23 assists and Emily Minnick 17 as the team hit .305.
UW-L returns to action Friday, September 6 at the Augsburg College (Minn.) Invitational.
