WIAC Championship Results
River Falls, Wis. - The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse men's cross country team captured the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) Championship Saturday afternoon at Kilkarney Hills Golf Course. The Eagles finished with 53 team points while UW-Eau Claire was second with 58. UW-Oshkosh placed third with 66 points.
UW-Stout was fourth (110) followed by UW-Platteville (138), UW-Stevens Point (152), UW-Whitewater (207), UW-Superior (223) and UW-River Falls (233).
It is UW-L's league record 32nd title in school history, including second straight.
The Eagles had four runners finish in the top-11 Saturday, including
Alex Ciesielski who placed eighth overall with a time of 24:52.17 on the 8,000-meter course. UW-L's
Josh Dedering was ninth (24:53.15) while
Garrett Kerska finished 10th (24:57.86) and
Jacob Peterson 11th (24:58.51).
Tom Linner was 15th (25:10.11) for the Eagles while
Andrew Rohlman placed 16th (25:13.68),
Nate Routhier 25th (25:41.91), Eric Lauria-Banta 26th (25:43.69), Matt Eidenschink 27th (25:45.08),
Eric Smits 32nd (25:54.35),
David Stilin 52nd (26:27.70) and
Tyler Heinz 60th (26:44.61)
A total of 102 runners competed. Patrick Jenkins of UW-Stout won the individual title (24:32.40). The top seven runners received All-WIAC First Team recognition, while runners placing eight through 14 earned All-WIAC Second Team accolades. Individuals finishing 15 through 20 claimed honorable mention laurels.
UW-L's Peterson was named to the 2013 All-WIAC Sportsmanship Team while Dedering earned the 2013 WIAC Max Sparger Scholar-Athlete Award.
UW-L returns to action Saturday, November 16 at the NCAA Division III Midwest Regional. The meet will be held at Saukie Golf Course in Rock Island, Illinois starting at noon.
