Box Score Superior, Wis. - The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse volleyball team earned a 3-1 (24-26, 25-19, 25-23, 25-21) victory at UW-Superior Friday night in Mertz Mortorelli Gymnasium. The Eagles improve to 7-8 overall and 3-1 in the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC). It is UW-L's third straight league win. The Yellowjackets fall to 14-6 overall and 1-4 in the conference. UW-Superior had its four-match winning streak snapped.
The opening set was tied 16-16 when UW-L scored three straight points, but UW-Superior came back to force a 22-22 tie. The set was tied 24-24 when the Yellowjackets' Kitty Tynen recorded back-to-back kills to earn the win.
The second set was tied 11-11, but UW-L scored eight consecutive points to lead 19-11.
Jill Entinger had three kills and
Lauren Probst two in the run. UW-Superior could get no closer than four points in the remaining set.
UW-L scored the first three points of the third set and later led 8-2. The Yellowjackets cut the deficit to 8-4, but the Eagles went on a 7-3 run to take a 15-7 advantage. UW-Superior cut the leadto 24-23, but Probst earned the set point with a kill off a
Cassie Raduka assist.
The fourth set was tied three times, including the last at 8-8. UW-L went on a 4-0 run to take a 12-8 lead and later led 16-10. UW-Superior trailed 19-18, but a pair of Yellowjackets' hitting errors gave the Eagles a 21-18 advantage.
Kayla Ashland earned the match win for UW-L with a kill on a
Lauren Rosowski assist.
Probst led four UW-L players in double figures in kills with 19.
Leah Putzier finished with 11 kills while Ashland and Entinger each recorded 10. Raduka had 51 assists as the Eagles hit .183.
Probst, Putzier and Raduka each recorded a double-double. Probst finished with 14 digs while Putzier and Raduka had 11.
Courtney Geisler tied Probst for the team lead with 14 digs.
Four players, Probst, Ashland, Entinger and
Haley Molzner, had three blocks for UW-L.
Tynen led UW-Superior with 16 kills and 19 digs while Jessica Zimmerman finished with 10 kills and nine digs. Keely Deadrick recorded 43 assists as the Yellowjackets hit .107.
Lauren Petersen finished with 16 digs while Chelsey Walerius had 12. Brooke Vonasek totaled three blocks.
UW-L returns to action Saturday, October 5 at UW-Stevens Point at 1 p.m.
