Box Score La Crosse, Wis. - The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse volleyball team fell 3-1 (19-25, 25-11, 25-20, 28-26) to UW-Stout Friday night in Mitchell Hall. The Eagles drop to 12-12 overall and 4-3 in the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) while the Blue Devils improve to 14-13 overall and 2-5 in the conference.
UW-Stout led 9-6 in the opening set when UW-L went on a 7-2 run to lead 13-11. The Blue Devils cut the lead to 20-19, but the Eagles scored the final five points to secure the victory.
The Blue Devils raced out to a 5-1 lead in the second set and after the Eagles cut their deficit to 8-5, UW-Stout scored four straight points to lead 12-5. UW-L could get no closer than six points the rest of the way.
UW-L led 6-1 to start the fourth set, but UW-Stout went on a 8-2 run to lead 9-8. The Blue Devils led 15-13 when they scored eight of the next nine points to lead 23-14. The Eagles did cut the lead to 23-19 after scoring five consecutive points, but could get no closer.
The fourth set was tied 9-9 when UW-Stout scored three straight points. UW-L later trailed 20-17 when it scored the next three points to force a tie, but UW-Stout scored the next four points to lead 24-20. The Eagles came right back to score the next four points to tie it again. The match was tied 26-26 when the Blue Devils scored the last two points to earn the win.
Lauren Probst led UW-L with 15 kills while
Crystal Ziegler finished with six.
Kayla Ashland,
Leah Putzier and
Jill Entinger each had five kills.
Cassie Raduka recorded 36 assists as the Eagles hit negative .006 for the match.
Courtney Geisler had a team-high 20 digs while Probst recorded 17. Entinger had 6.0 total blocks.
Morgan Denny led UW-Stout with 12 kills while Emily Crew finished with 10 and Molly Brion nine. Karley Wiensch had 38 assists as the Blue Devils hit .105.
Wiensch and Nicole Bradford led the team with 17 digs each while Brion finished with 13 and Megan Herrman 10. Denny had 5.0 total blocks.
UW-L returns to action Saturday, October 26 hosting UW-River Falls at noon in the regular-season home finale.
