Frank and Churchill Lead UW-L to Fourth Straight Win

Superior, Wis. - The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse women's basketball squad earned an 73-58 victory at UW-Superior Saturday night in Mertz Mortorelli Gymnasium. The Eagles, winners of four straight games, improve to 17-5 overall and 10-3 in the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) while the Yellowjackets fall to 8-13 overall and 2-10 in the conference.

UW-L's Danielle Frank and Dana Churchill each recorded a double-double Saturday night. Frank finished with 23 points, 17 rebounds, three blocks and three steals while Churchill finished with 12 points, 14 rebounds and six assists. 

Taylor Larson and Kassie Robinson each added 12 points. 

The Eagles trailed 15-11 with 15:30 remaining in the first half when they went on a 7-0 run to lead 18-15. UW-Superior came right back to lead 20-18 with 13:01 left, but UW-L used a 9-2 run to lead 27-22.  The Eagles led 38-31 at halftime.

UW-L opened the second half on a 12-4 run to lead 50-35. The Eagles led by double digits until the Yellowjackets cut the deficit to 59-50 with 4:35 remaining, but UW-Superior could get no closer the rest of the game.

UW-L shot 42.4% from the field, including 21.7% (five-of-23) from three-point range, and 78.3% (18-of-23) at the line. 

Bri Davis and Kelsey Thingvold led UW-Superior with 10 points each. The Yellowjackets shot 35.7% from the field, including 33.3% (six-of-18) from three-point range, and 40.0% (two-of-five) at the line.

UW-L returns to action Wednesday, February 9 hosting UW-Oshkosh at 7:05 p.m.
