Bobbi Vandenberg enters her seventh season as a volunteer assistant coach at UW-La Crosse in 2024-25.
The Eagles are 90-51 overall and 40-35 in the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) the last six years. UWL went 13-14 overall and 5-9 in the WIAC in 2023-24, advancing to the tournament semifinals after a first round victory over UW-Platteville. It marked the Eagles' eighth straight appearance in the WIAC Tournament.
UWL finished 19-7 overall and 8-6 in the WIAC in 2022-23, recording its most overall wins since finishing 19-8 in 2019-20. The Eagles went 14-12 overall and 5-8 in the WIAC in 2021-22, moving to the second round of the conference tournament. UWL finished 5-5 overall and 4-4 in the WIAC in 2020-21, advancing to the league's tournament semifinals for the fifth straight season while going 4-1 at home.
UWL went 19-8 overall and 10-4 in the WIAC in 2019-20, finishing tied for second in the league standings and advancing to the league's tournament semifinals for the fourth straight year. The Eagles made their fifth appearance, and first since 2010-11, in earning an at-large bid to the 2020 National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division III Tournament. UWL went 11-2 at home during the 2019-20 season.
UWL finished 22-5 overall and 10-4 in the WIAC in 2018-19, recording its most overall wins since going 22-7 in 1987-88. The Eagles' 10 league wins were the most since finishing 12-4 in 2010-11. UWL advanced to the 2019 WIAC Championships Semifinals for the third straight year and fifth time overall as the team tied for second overall in the league standings. The Eagles were 10-2 at home in 2018-19 while setting a school record in three-point field goals made (195) and attempted (579)
Prior to coming to UWL, Vandenberg was the head basketball coach at Viterbo University (Wis.) from 1993-2018. During her time at Viterbo (Wis.), Vandenberg led the V-Hawks to two appearances in the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) National Tournament advancing to the Sweet Sixteen in 2001. Vandenberg guided the V-Hawks to two regular season conference championships and two conference tournament championships. At the time of retirement from Viterbo (Wis.), Vandenberg was 15th on the active NAIA women’s basketball coaches wins list with 318.
Vandenberg, a native of Denver, Colo., was head coach at Boulder (Colo.) High School from 1982-87 and from 1988-1992. She compiled a 182-28 record there and won Colorado girls state basketball championships five times. A 2017 Colorado High School Activities Association Hall of Fame inductee, Vandenberg was named Denver Post Coach of the Year five times.
A three-year letter winner in basketball at the University of Colorado, Boulder, Vandenberg graduated in 1982 with degrees in biology and biochemistry while earning a teaching certificate in secondary science.
Vandenberg and her husband, Joe, live in La Crosse and have two children, Patrick (29) and Mollie (27).
