Sam Chilsen starts his second season as an assistant coach at UW-La Crosse in 2019, serving as running backs coach. He assisted the Eagles' offensive coordinator in coaching the quarterbacks in 2018. Chilsen manages the creation and distribution of practice plans, scripts, playbooks, installs, scouting reports, and call sheets. He also performs film breakdowns to assist in opponent scouring, personnel evaluation, game planning, and offensive self-scout.
Earning his bachelor's degree in information systems from UW-Eau Claire in 2018, Chilsen was an undergraduate assistant coach for the Blugolds from 2014-18. He assisted the defensive coordinator in coaching the linebackers. Chilsen created scout cards for weekly opponents and organized and instructed the offensive and special teams scout teams.
Chilsen is a member of the American Football Coaches Association (AFCA) and Wisconsin Football Coaches Association (WFCA).
