Jon Larson is in his 10th season as an assistant coach at UWL in 2026, working with the kickers, punters, long snappers and holders. He is credited with coaching 13 All-Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) selections.Â
Michael Stack was named the 2025 WIAC Specal Teams Player of the Year while also being selected to the Associated Press (AP) All-America Second Team and the D3football.com All-America Fourth Team. He finished 38-of-39 in extra-point attempts and nine-of-13 in field goal attempts. Stack was named a semifinalist for the Fred Mitchell Award, given to the nation's top collegiate placekicker.Â
Voted the 2023 WIAC Co-Special Teams Player of the Year, Stack was named to the 2023 and 2025 all-conference first team. He also earned 2023 AP and D3football.com All-America First Team honors and D3football.com All-Region 6 First Team. He went 13-of-15 in field goal attempts and 65-of-65 in extra-points during the season. One of 10 finalists for the 2023 Fred Mitchell Award, Stack tied the single-season school record of 13 field goals by Chris Schumacher in 1989. His 65 extra-points made and attempted are both school records. Stack's 104 points in 2023 ranks second in single-season school history.Â
Stack was selected the WIAC Special Teams Player of the Week seven times in his career. He converted the game-winning 51-yard field goal on the final play in UWL's 37-34 victory at third-ranked UW-Whitewater on October 7, 2023, tying a school record. Stack ranks second in career extra-points made (135), tied for second in career field goals made (31) and fifth in career points (228).Â
Ethan Tranel was named to the 2025 All-WIAC First Team at punter, averaging 41.8 yards per attempt. He recorded 18 punts inside the 20-yard line and finished with 12 punts over 50-yards. Ben Walsh was selected to the 2025 All-WIAC Honorable Mention Special Teams as a long snapper.Â
Ryan Krueger was voted to the 2023 All-WIAC Honorable Mention Team. He averaged 39.7 yards per punt with five inside the 20-yard line.Â
Michael Pakos was named to the second team all-conference team as a kicker in 2017 while punter Sean Parker earned honorable mention accolades. Parker also picked up second team honors in 2018, honorable mention in 2019 and first team in 2021. Long snapper Connor Wears was selected to the 2019 All-WIAC Honorable Mention Team. Ryan Beirne was voted to the 2022 All-WIAC First Team with long snapper Sawyer Schick being named to the second team.Â
Prior to coaching at UWL, Larson was the assistant coach at La Crosse (Wis.) Central High School from 2006-15. He served as Viroqua (Wis.) High School head football coach from 2003-05 after being an assistant coach from 2001-02.Â
Larson is currently a physical education teacher for the La Crosse (Wis.) School District. He and his wife, Tammy, have two children, Emily and Jacob.Â
