2023-24 Howie's Dynamite Student-Athletes of the Week

May 20-260
Lauren Jarrett, So., La Crosse (Logan), Track & Field
   
Jarrett swept the 100 (11.70) and 200 (23.81) meter dash at the NCAA Division III Championships in helping lead UWL to a runner-up finish. Jarrett was also a member of UWL's national title 4x100-meter relay (46.06) with Makenna Zak, Anika Reiland and Taylor Molling. She is the first sprinter in UWL history to win the 100 or 200-meter dash. Jarrett broke her own school record of 23.97 in the 200-meter dash. She is the second student-athlete in school history to win a pair of individual titles at the same championships, joining Tori Neubauer who captured the 5,0000 and 10,000-meter runs in 1984. UWL won its third NCAA III title in the 4x100-meter relay after capturing the crown in 2013 and 2014. 

Sam Blaskowski, Jr., Oshkosh (West), Track & Field
   
Blaskowski swept the 100 (10.24) and 200 (20.63) meter dash at the NCAA Division III Championships in helping lead UWL to the team title. He was also a member of the Eagles' national title 4x100-meter relay (39.82) with Collin Conzemius, Spencer Reichart and Luke Schroeder. Blaskowski won his third straight 100-meter dash title. He is one of two sprinters in NCAA III history to win at least three consecutive 100-meter dash titles, joining Chaz Clemons of Lincoln University (Pa.) who won four straight (2000-03). UWL won its second straight 4x100-meter relay crown after Ryder Smith, Blaskowski, Reichart and Schroeder took the title last year. Blaskowski set three facility records at the championships, including a meet record in the 4x100-meter relay.

May 13-19
Lauren Jarrett, So., La Crosse (Logan), Track & Field
    Jarrett won the 200-meter dash (23.97) at the Augustana College (Ill.) Midwest Twilight Qualifier. She broke UWL's record of 24.07 set by Meg Heafy in 2015 and Emily Dawidowich in 2023.  Jarrett also set a facility and meet record. Her time of 23.97 is first on the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division III Honor Roll. She was also a member of UWL's winning 4x100-meter relay (46.12) with Makenna Zak, Anika Reiland and Taylor Molling. The relay ranks second on the NCAA III Honor Roll.

Tyler Schmitt, So., RHP, Madison (Memorial), Baseball
   Schmitt helped UWL earn an NCAA Division III Regional title with a 1-0 record and one save and 1.04 earned run average. He earned the victory in the Eagles' 19-2 victory over Bethel University (Minn.), pitching 7.0 innings, allowing three hits, one run and three walks with five strikeouts. Schmitt picked up the save in a 9-7 win over Coe College (Iowa) to clinch the regional championship. Schmitt went 1.2 innings, allowing one hit while striking out two.

May 6-12
Izzy Carroll, Sr., Platteville (H.S.), Track & Field
   Carroll recorded three top-seven finishes at the UWL Eagle Open. She placed second in the shot put (45-2 1/4), fourth in the hammer throw (175-6) and seventh in the discus throw (144-9). Carroll set season-highs in all three events.

Sam Blaskowski, Jr., Oshkosh (West), Track & Field

   Blaskowski lowered his own NCAA Division III record in the 100-meter dash with a time of 10.09 in winning the event at the UWL Eagle Open. The time of 10.09 is also Roger Harring Stadium at Veterans Memorial Field Sports Complex. Blaskowski broke the stadium record of 10.12 by UW-Eau Claire's Thurgood Ennis set in 2015.

April 29-May 5
Amber Grosse, So., Madison (Edgewood), Track & Field
    Grosse won the heptathlon at the WIAC Championships on May 3-4. She captured the title with 4,692 points, becoming the first UWL athlete to win the title since Jena Weigel in 2013. Her 4,692 points ranks fourth in school history. The point total is also first on the 2024 WIAC Honor Roll and ninth in NCAA Division III. 

Sam Blaskowski, Jr., Oshkosh (West), Track & Field
   Blaskowski won the 100-meter dash at the WIAC Championships on May 4 with a time of 10.04, breaking his own NCAA Division III record of 10.13 set at the 2023 national championships. Blaskowski also set a WIAC meet record and UW-Platteville facility record. He broke the championship record of 10.12 set by Thurgood Dennis of UW-Eau Claire in 2015. Dennis also held the facility record of 10.28 set in 2014. Blaskowski was on UWL's third-place 4x100-meter relay (40.70) at this year's league meet.

April 22-28
Elise Weinzierl, Sr., St. Michael, Minn. (St. Michael-Albertville), Softball
   Weinzierl went 2-0 with a 0.70 earned run average in two starts last week. She earned the victory at UW-River Falls on April 23, going 3.0 innings, allowing two hits while striking out five. Weinzierl then earned the complete-game win over 22nd-ranked UW-Whitewater on April 27, pitching 7.0 innings, allowing five hits and one run with eight strikeouts. She had 13 strikeouts in 10.0 innings without issuing a walk. Weinzierl held opponents to a .194 batting average.

Sebastian Jefferson, So., Waukesha (South), Track & Field
    Jefferson won the long jump (23-7 ¼ with 0.2 wind) at the UW-Eau Claire Invitational on April 27. The mark is third on the WIAC Honor Roll and 16th in NCAA Division III. 

April 15-21
Samantha Barrett, Jr., Prior Lake, Minn. (H.S.), Track & Field
     Barrett won the triple jump (40-2) in helping lead UWL to the team title at the Phil Esten Challenge. Her mark ranks fourth in NCAA Division III and first in the WIAC. The distance is also third in school history.

Isaiah Katz, Jr., Fall Creek (H.S.), Baseball
     Katz earned the complete-game victory over sixth-ranked UW-Whitewater as UWL earned a 6-1 win. He pitched 9.0 innings, allowing six hits, one run and one walk while striking out seven. 

April 8-14
Sam Blaskowski, Jr., Oshkosh (West), Track & Field
      Blaskowski ran the 100-meter dash at the Azusa Pacific University (Calif.) Bryan Clay Invitational and the 100 and 200-meter dash at the Long Beach State University (Calif.) Invitational. At Azusa, he ran 10.51 in the 100-meter dash to place fifth out of 115 runners. Blaskowski then became the first NCAA III runner to break 10.00 with a time of 9.99 at Long Beach State, finishing second of 90 sprinters. He finished third overall with a time of 20.82 in the 200-meter dash at Long Beach State. Blaskowski's time of 20.82 also ranks first on this year's NCAA III Honor Roll.

Chris VandenHeuvel, Jr., Neenah (Appleton Xavier), Baseball
     VandenHeuvel hit .519 (14-for-27) in seven starts while recording a .639 on-base and .963 slugging percentage. He had five multiple-hit and multiple-RBI games while finishing the week with 16 RBI, nine runs, six walks, three doubles, three home runs, three hit-by-pitches and two stolen bases.
      VandenHeuvel went 2-for-3 with two runs, one home run and four RBI versus Luther College (Iowa). He was 4-for-5 with three doubles, one walk and two runs in the second game of a doubleheader at UW-Stout. In the first two games versus UW-Oshkosh, he was 6-for-9 with four RBI and one home run. VandenHeuvel was 2-for-3 with one home run, two walks, four runs and four RBI in a come-from-behind 17-15 victory in the series finale. His three-run home run cut the lead to 15-14 as UWL scored seven runs in the bottom of the ninth.

April 1-7
Makenna Zak, So., Ashland (H.S.), Track & Field
     Zak won the 100-meter dash (12.08) in helping lead UWL to the team title at the Ashton May Invitational on April 6. She ran 12.02 in the preliminaries. Zak's time of 12.02 ranks second on the WIAC Honor Roll and 12th in NCAA Division III.

Jack Hehli, So., West Salem (H.S.), Tennis
     Hehli won a pair matches in straight sets at No. 3 singles as UWL earned dual victories on April 6. He defeated Elijah Swanstrom of Wartburg College (Iowa) by scores of 6-4, 6-2 and Carson Haack of the University of Northwestern (Minn.) by scores of 6-3, 6-2. 

March 25-31
Gabby Johnson, Sr., Plover (Stevens Point), Track & Field
     Johnson won the javelin throw (136-11) at the Wartburg College (Iowa) Good Friday Challenge on March 29. Her mark ranks first on the WIAC Honor Roll and fourth in NCAA Division III. 

Adam Loenser, Jr., Clear Lake (H.S.), Track & Field
     Loenser placed fifth in the 5,000-meter run (14:06.63) at the Washington University in St. Louis (Mo.) Distance Carnival. His time ranks first on the WIAC Honor Roll and fourth in NCAA Division III.
March 18-24
Rachel Chesley, Jr., Dellwood, Minn. (Mahtomedi), Gymnastics
    
Chesley earned a pair of National Collegiate Gymnastics Association (NCGA) All-America honors on March 23. She placed fourth on the vault (9.775) and uneven parallel bars (season-high 9.800) in helping lead UWL to a third-place team finish. 

George Seaman, Jr., Jackson (West Bend East), Baseball
     Seaman hit .571 (12-of-21) in five starts last week with a .640 on-base and .667 slugging percentage. He scored eight runs with four RBI, four walks and two doubles. Seaman had a hit in all five games with four multiple-hit contests. He also scored at least two runs in three games. Seaman went 2-for-4 versus William Paterson (N.J.) on March 18 and 2-for-4 against 13th-ranked Johns Hopkins University (M.D.) on March 19. He went 8-for-13 with seven runs, four RBI, three walks and one double in a three-game series sweep at Washington University in St. Louis (Mo.) on March 23-24. WashU (Mo.) was receiving votes on the D3baseball.com Top-25 Poll. Sean went 5-for-6 with our RBI and three runs in a 16-13 win on March 23. 

March 11-17
Brooke Howard, Fr., Rock Falls, Ill. (H.S.), Softball
    
Howard hit .464 (13-of-28) in eight starts last week, recording .750 slugging and .500 on-base percentage. She had a hit in all eight games, including three multiple-hit contests. Howard scored a run in six games. She finished with five stolen bases, five RBI, four doubles, two triples and two walks. 

Nolan Hertel, Sr., Marshfield (H.S.), Wrestling
    
Hertel captured his second straight NCAA Division III championship at 157-pounds with a 4-0 record. He opened the tournament with a major decision (9-0) over Nate Camiscioli of Castleton University (Vt.) in the first round followed by a technical fall (17-1, 4:48) against eighth-seeded Xavier Howard of McDaniel College in the quarterfinals. Hertel, the top-seed in the tournament, won by major decision (11-3) over fifth-seeded Blake Jagodzinske of Augsburg (Minn.) in the semifinals. Hertel repeated as champion with a decision (4-2) over third-seeded Peter Kane of Williams College (Mass.). He is the only 157-pound champion in school history. It is Hertel's third career All-America award after a fifth-place finish in 2022. He end this season at 29-0.

March 4-10
Lauren Jarrett, So., La Crosse (Logan), Track & Field
     
Jarrett became the first sprinter in school history to capture the NCAA Division III championship in the 60-meter dash. Her time of 7.41 broke her own school record of 7.44 set in the preliminaries. The time of 7.41 ranks second in NCAA Division III history. Jarrett also earned  All-America honors with a sixth-place finish (24.80) in the 200-meter dash. 

Sam Blaskowski, Jr., Oshkosh (West), Track & Field
   
Blaskowski won the 60-meter dash (6.68) and 200-meter dash (20.93) at the NCAA Division III Championships. 
It was his second straight national title in the 60-meter dash. His time of 20.93 in the 200-meter dash broke his own school record of 21.13. Blaskowski is the second sprinter in NCAA Division III history to win the 60 and 200-meter dash at the same championships.

February 26-March 3
Megan Feeney, Jr., Libertyville, Ill. (H.S.), Lacrosse
     Feeney recorded five goals and one assist in UWL's 17-16 overtime victory over Lake Forest College (Ill.) on March 2. She won the draw control to start overtime as the Eagles scored the winning goal :43 into overtime.

Alex Aranda, Fr., Fox Point (Nicolet), Tennis
     Aranda earned a 3-6, 6-4, 10-4 victory over Zack Chaffey of Bethel University (Minn.) at No. 4 singles on March 3. 

February 19-25
Izzy Carroll, Sr., Platteville (H.S.), Track & Field
    
Carroll captured the shot put title (46-9) and finished eighth in the weight throw (52-4) at the WIAC Championships on February 23-24. She helped lead UWL to its fourth straight league championship. Carroll ranks first on the WIAC Honor Roll and sixth in NCAA Division III in the shot put.

Luke Schroeder, Jr., Green Bay (Ashwaubenon), Track & Field
    
Schroeder won the 60-meter hurdles (7.91) and 200-meter dash (21.59) at the WIAC Championships on February 23-24. He helped lead UWL to its 21st league title in the last 22 seasons. Schroeder earned his second straight title in the 60-meter hurdles. He became the first athlete in WIAC history to win the 60-meter hurdles and the 200-meter dash at the same championships.

February 12-18
Joanne Banaszak, So., Kenosha (Indian Trail), Diving
   
Banaszak was named the WIAC Diver of the Meet at the conference championships. She captured the three-meter title (447.70 points) and finished second in the one-meter (407.20). Banaszak is the eighth diver in school history to earn the award. 

Nolan Hertel, Sr., Marshfield (H.S.), Wrestling
   Hertel won his fourth straight 157-pound title at the WIAC Championships with a decision (5-0) over UW-Whitewater's Jermaine Butler. Hertel won by technical fall (16-1, 3:39) over UW-Stevens Point's Joey Ahern in the quarterfinals and by technical fall (17-2, 7:00) over UW-Eau Claire's Colton Sund in the semifinals. Hertel became the first wrestler in WIAC history to win four consecutive titles at 157-pounds.

February 5-11
Raina Christenson, Fr., Basehor, Kan. (Basehor-Linwood), Gymnastics
     
Christenson tied for first (9.800) on the balance beam at the Northern Illinois University Quadrangular on February 9. UWL scored 193.175 in the meet featuring NCAA Division I Northern Illinois and Western Michigan University and NCAA Division III UW-Whitewater. Christenson became the first UWL gymnast to win an individual title at an NCAA Division I meet since Sam Weyker won the floor exercise at the U.S. Air Force Academy on January 6, 2018. 

Nathan Andringa, Jr., Waukesha (West), Track & Field
    Andringa won the high jump (6-9) in helping lead UWL to the team title at the Midwest Elite Invitational at UW-Whitewater on February 10. His mark of 6-9 ranks second in the WIAC and tied for fifth on the NCAA Division III Honor Roll. 

January 29-February 4
Autumn Seebach, Jr., Menomonee Falls (H.S.), Swimming
      Seebach won three events as UWL earned a dual victory at UW-Whitewater on February 3. She captured the 100 backstroke (1:00.46), 100 butterfly (1:01.73) and 200 breaststroke (2:38.94). 

Tony McNiff, Jr., Princeton (H.S.), Minn., Diving
      McNiff won the three-meter competition (447.15 points) and placed second in the one-meter (426.35) at the Dodd Road Invitational at Carleton College (Minn.) on February 3. He met the NCAA Division III Qualifying standards in both events.

January 22-28
Lauryn Milne, Jr., Lodi (H.S.), Basketball
      Milne averaged 18.0 points and 11.0 rebounds in two UWL wins last week, recording double-doubles in both games. She finished with 22 points, 11 rebounds and two assists in a 77-66 victory over fourth-ranked and previously undefeated UW-Whitewater on January 24. UWL snapped an eight-game losing streak to UW-Whitewater and recorded its first home win over the Warhawks since the 2011-12 season. Milne recorded 14 points, 11 rebounds and one assist in a 79-64 win at UW-Platteville on January 27. She finished 12-of-12 at the free throw line for the week.

Lauren Jarrett, So., La Crosse (Logan), Track & Field
     Jarrett won the 60 (7.59) and 200 (24.83) meter dashes at the DePaul University (Ill.) Blue Demon Alumni Classic on January 26-27. Her time of 7.59 in the 60-meter dash tied her own school record while her time of 24.83 in the 200-meter dash ranks third in school history. Jarrett's time of 7.59 is currently tied for first on the NCAA Division III Honor Roll her time of 24.83 is tied for fifth (first on the WIAC Honor Roll). 

January 15-21
Jacob Ketterling, So., Oak Creek (H.S.), Swimming
    Ketterling won the 100-yard backstroke (53.24), 200-yard backstroke (1:58.03) and 100-yard butterfly (51.69) in UWL's dual victory over Carthage College (Wis.) on January 19. He was also on the first-place 200-yard medley relay (1:34.88). Ketterling won the 200-yard individual medley (2:02.19) and finished second in the 50-yard freestyle (22.27) and 100-yard freestyle (49.54) in UWL's dual win at UW-Oshkosh on January 20. He was also on the second-place 200-yard freestyle relay (1:28.36).

Luke Schroeder, Jr., Green Bay (Ashwaubenon), Track & Field
   Schroeder won the 200-meter dash (21.63) in helping lead UWL to the team title at the Pat Healy Classic on January 20. His time of 21.63 is currently tied for first on the NCAA Division III Honor Roll and tied for third-fastest time in school history. Schroeder also competed in the 60-meter hurdles preliminaries, setting a school record with a time of 7.92 seconds. He broke the school record of 8.10 seconds set by Marcus Walgrave in 2006 and Austin Bates in 2019. Schroeder's time of 7.92 seconds is first on the NCAA Division III Honor Roll and tied for the eighth-fastest in NCAA Division III history. 

January 8-14
Jessica Taylor, Jr., Overland Park, Kan. (Blue Valley), Gymnastics
     Taylor won the floor exercise (9.750) in UWL's season-opening dual victory over Simpson College (Iowa) on January 12. She captured the title after coming back from a broken toe in September. 

JJ Paider, So., Neenah (H.S.), Basketball
     Paider averaged 15.0 points, 10.0 rebounds and 2.0 assists in two WIAC games last week. He finished with 14 points and career-high 12 rebounds with three assists, two steals and one block in a 77-69  victory over UW-Stout on January 10. It was his first career double-double. Paider totaled a career-high 16 points with eight rebounds and one assist at 16th-ranked UW-Platteville on January 13. He went seven-of-nine from the field and two-of-two at the free throw line versus the Pioneers.

January 1-7
Dustin Derousseau, So., Tomah (H.S.), Basketball
   Derousseau averaged 21.5 points, 4.0 rebounds and 2.0 assists in two WIAC games last week. He finished with 11 points at UW-River Falls on January 3 before coming back to score a career-high 32 points with six rebounds and three assists in a double overtime victory over UW-Stevens Point on January 6. Derousseau went 10-of-18 from the field, including two-of-six from three-point range, and 10-of-11 at the free throw line. 

Michael Douglas, Jr., Belmont (H.S.), Wrestling
     Douglas went 4-0 in helping lead UWL to a third-place finish at the National Wrestling Coaches Association (NWCA)/Multi-Divisional Duals on January 5-6. He opened with a fall (1:41) over Ruben Silvas of Millikin University (Ill.). Douglas earned a technical fall (21-6) over Cadin Koeppel of UW-Whitewater, giving the Eagles' the team victory after trailing 20-16 after the 197-pound match. He won by sudden victory (2-1) over Mitch Williamson of Wartburg College (Iowa) in the semifinals and completed the tournament with a decision (7-6) over 10th-ranked Robby Bates of North Central College (Ill.). The victory secured the team win for UWL to take third-place.

December 18-31 
Kailee Meeker, Jr., Waunakee (H.S.), Basketball
   Meeker averaged 16.5 points, 2.0 rebounds and 1.5 assists in a pair of victories at the UW-Superior Classic. She finished with 21 points in a win versus St. Norbert College (Wis.) on December 29. Meeker then had 12 points and three assists in a victory over Marian University (Wis.) on December 30.

Lauryn Milne, Jr., Lodi, Basketball
   Milne averaged 13.5 points, 8.0 rebounds and 2.0 steals in a pair of UWL victories at the UW-Superior Classic. She finished 15 points, seven rebounds, four steals and one assist in a win over St. Norbert College (Wis.) on December 29. Milne then had 12 points, nine rebounds and one block in a victory over Marian University (Wis.) on December 30.

December 11-17
Will Fuhrmann, Jr., Reedsburg (H.S.), Basketball
     Fuhrmann finished with a career-high 23 points and four steals in UWL's 74-59 win at Saint Mary's University (Minn.) on December 13. He went nine-of-14 from the field, including five-of-five from three-point range. Fuhrmann also finished with six rebounds. 

Tyler Goebel, Jr., Mukwonago (H.S.), Wrestling
     Goebel, ranked third by the National Wrestling Coaches Association (NWCA), earned a 2-1 win over fifth-ranked Zach Sato of UW-Eau Claire in UWL's dual victory over the third-ranked Blugolds on December 13. Goebel improved to 9-0 on the season.

December 4-10
Lauryn Milne, Jr., Lodi (H.S.), Basketball
     Milne finished with a season-high 21 points, three assists and two blocks while also recording 12 rebounds and two steals in UWL's 95-66 victory at Concordia University Chicago (Ill.) on December 9. The 21 points was also a career-high. She went eight-of-11 from the field, including one-of-three from three-point range, and four-of-four at the free throw line. 

Ben Kawczynski, Jr., Oak Creek (H.S.), Wrestling
    Kawczynski finished second at the North Central College (Ill.) Invitational on December 9, going 3-1. After a first round bye, he won by technical fall (19-3) over Elijah Brockie of North Central (Ill.) in the second round. Kawczynski, ranked ninth in the National Wrestling Coaches Association, won by fall (2:59) over Hadyn Ball of Wabash College (Ind.) in the quarterfinals and by technical fall (17-2) over Tyler Raway of Augsburg University (Minn.) in the semifinals. He lost the title match by decision (1-0) to third-ranked Parker Venz of Augsburg (Minn.). 

November 27-December 3
Libby Cleveland, Fr., Sheboygan (North), Swimming
   Cleveland helped lead UWL to a fourth-place finish out of 10 teams at the Rochester (Minn.) Invitational on November 30-December 2. She recorded three top-nine individual finishes, placing fourth in 100 I.M. (1:01.12), eighth in the 50 freestyle (24.77) and ninth in the 100 freestyle (53.28). Cleveland was also on four relays finishing in the top-nine, including the third-place 200 freestyle relay (1:37.77).  UWL was sixth in the 200 medley relay (1:48.47) and 400 freestyle relay (3:36.81) and ninth in the 400 medley relay (4:03.53).

Jacob Ketterling, So., Oak Creek (H.S.), Swimming
     Ketterling helped lead UWL to a fourth-place finish out of eight teams at the Rochester (Minn.) Invitational on November 30-December 2.  He had four top-nine individual finishes, including three in the top-three. Ketterling finished second in the 100 (51.22) and 200 (1:50.85) backstroke and third in the 100 I.M. (51.36). He was also ninth in the 100 butterfly (49.58). Ketterling was on four relays, the fourth-place 200 freestyle (1:22.92) and 400 medley (3:25.95). UWL was seventh in the 400 freestyle relay (3:06.42) and 12th in the 200 medley relay (1:36.11). 
November 20-26 
Keyser Helterbrand, Sr., Hudson (H.S.), Football
   Helterbrand accounted for seven touchdowns in UWL's 56-35 victory over Aurora University (Ill.) in the NCAA Division III Second Round on November 25. He finished 11-of-15 or 317 yards with five touchdowns and two interceptions while rushing for 82 yards and two touchdowns on 22 carries. With his five passing touchdowns, Helterbrand set a single-season school record with 33, breaking Evan Lewandowski's school record of 28 set in 2019.

Austin Westra, Sr., De Forest (H.S.), Basketball
    Westra averaged 18.0 points and 9.0 rebounds in two UWL victories last week. He finished with a double-double in a win at Ripon College (Wis.) on November 21, scoring a career-high 29 points while grabbing a season-high 12 rebounds. Westra was 11-of-15 from the field, including two-of-five from three-point range, and five-of-seven at the free throw line. He then had seven points and six rebounds in a victory over Wartburg College (Iowa) on November 25.

Nolan Hertel, Sr., Marshfield (H.S.), Wrestling
    Hertel earned a 3-1 victory over Nick Novak of St. Cloud State University (Minn.) at 157-pounds in the National Wrestling Coaches Association (NWCA) All-Star Classic on November 21 at Rec Hall on the campus of Penn State University. Hertel is the first NCAA Division III wrestler to earn a win at the NWCA All-Star Classic. Hertel is the defending NCAA III Champion at 157-pounds while Novak is the defending NCAA III Champion at 157.

November 13-19
Laci Gottschalk, Jr., Sturgis, Mich. (H.S.), Diving
    
Gottschalk won the one-meter (391.55 points) competition and finished second in the three-meter (399.00) at the Luther College (Iowa) Invitational on November 17-18. She set season-highs in both events.

Ethan Gregg, Sr., La Crosse (Aquinas), Cross Country
     
Gregg won the NCAA Division III title with a time of 24:02.4 on the 8,000-meter course in Newville, Pennyslvania on November 18. He became the second runner in school history to capture the individual national title, joining Brett Altergott in 1997. Gregg earned his third career NCAA III All-America after finishing fourth in 2022 and 11th in 2021. He helped lead UWL to a second-place finish at this year's NCAA III Championships.

November 6-12
Ellie Arndt, Jr., Appleton (St. Francis Xavier), Soccer
    Arndt had a goal and two assists in UWL's 3-1 win over Simpson College (Iowa) in the NCAA Division III Second Round on November 12. Her second assist on UWL's corner kick led to Sera Speltz' game-winning goal. Arndt added a goal at 83:34 to give UWL a 3-1 lead. She had four shots, including three on goal. Arndt recorded five shots with three on goal in UWL's 1-0 victory over UW-Superior in the first round on November 11.

Christian Powell, So., Milwaukee (University School), Football
    Powell, playing defensive line after a position switch during the week, recorded seven tackles, including 3.0 quarterbacks in UWL's 41-7 victory at UW-Stevens Point on November 11. The win clinched the outright WIAC title for UWL as the Eagles finished 7-0 in league play. Powell also had a forced fumble and a quarterback hurry in the game. 
October 30-November 5 
Sophia Anger, Sr., Milwaukee (Rufus King), Soccer
    
Anger earned a pair of wins in the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) Tournament. She recorded two saves in UWL's 5-0 win over UW-Stevens Point in the tournament semifinals and two in a 3-0 victory over UW-Platteville in the championship game. The championship victory clinched UWL's automatic bid to the NCAA Division III Championships.

Jack Kelly, Sr., Plover (SPASH), Football
    
Kelly had three tackles, including 1.5 for loss and 1.0 quarterback sack in UWL's 31-28 win at seventh-ranked UW-River Falls on November 4. He also had a forced fumble and blocked the potential game-tying 27-yard field goal on the final play of the game.  The victory clinched at least a share of the WIAC title for UWL and secured the league's automatic bid to the NCAA Division III Championships. 

October 23-29 
Maddy Vantassel, Sr., Appleton (West), Cross Country
     
Vantassel helped lead UWL to its third straight WIAC Championship with a seventh-place finish (22:25.3 on the 6,000-meter course) on October 28. It was her second straight All-WIAC First Team honor after placing sixth last season. Vantassel earned four career all-conference accolades, finishing 11th in 2019 and 13th in 2021.

Isaac Wegner, Sr., Durand (H.S.), Cross Country
    Wegner helped lead UWL to its sixth consecutive WIAC Championship with a fourth-place finish (24:43.6 on the 8,000-meter course on October 28. It was his third career All-WIAC First Team honor after finishing third in 2022 and fifth in 2021. Wegner was also named the WIAC Max Sparger Scholar-Athlete.

October 16-22
Sydney Halstead, Sr., Wauwatosa (East), Soccer
     Halstead, playing on Senior Night, scored a pair of goals in UWL's 3-0 victory over UW-Eau Claire on October 21. Her game-winning goal at 11:58 came off a Claire Cater corner kick. Halstead added her second goal at 25:05 off another corner kick from Maggie Hernandez. Halstead helped lead to UWL clinching the WIAC regular-season title. She had four shots in two matches last week, including three on goal. Halstead had two shots (one on goal) in a 6-1 victory at UW-Stout on October 18. 

Anna Rossner, Sr., Wauwatosa (East), Volleyball
     Rossner averaged 3.40 kills in three matches last week, finishing with 34 kills and one error in 51 attempts for a .647 hitting percentage. She hit 10 kills with no errors in 22 attempts at UW-Eau Claire on October 20. Rossner then had 10 kills in 11 attempts in a victory over Beloit College (Wis.) and 14 kills in 18 attempts in a win at Central College (Iowa) on October 21. She also had five aces and 8.0 blocks during the week. 

October 9-15 
Maddie Hannan, Sr., Minneapolis, Minn. (Southwest), Cross Country
    
Hannan placed second at the Tori Neubauer Invitational, helping lead UWL to the team title. She completed the 6,000-meter course in 22:38.1. A total of 298 runners completed the race. It marked Hannan's third straight second-place finish in the Neubauer Invitational. 

Addie Pauling, Jr., Appleton (West), Soccer
     Pauling helped anchor UWL's defense to record a pair of shutouts last week. UWL held MSOE (Wis.) to three shots on goal in a 0-0 tie on October 9. MSOE (Wis.) is 13-1-3 on the season. The Eagles then held UW-River Falls to two shots, including one on goal, in a 2-0 victory on October 14. UWL now has 10 shutouts this season.


October 2-8 
Haley Thoeny, Fr., Lodi (H.S.), Golf
    
Thoeny was selected the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) Newcomer of the Year after finishing seventh at the league championships October 6-8.  She placed seventh overall with a three-day total of 243 (81-83-79). A total of 66 golfers completed the three rounds. With her seventh-place finish, Thoeny earned All-WIAC Second Team accolades.

Michael Stack, So., Oshkosh (West), Football
    
Stack went three-of-three in field goals and four-of-four in extra-point attempts in UWL's 37-34 victory at third-ranked UW-Whitewater on October 7. He hit a 51-yard field goal on the final play of the game to snap UWL's 19-game losing streak to UW-Whitewater. The 51-yard field goal tied the school record. Stack converted a 29-yard field goal in the second quarter and a 44-yard attempt in the third quarter. 

September 25-October 1  
Ethan Gregg, Sr., La Crosse (Aquinas), Cross Country
    
Gregg helped lead UWL to a seventh-place team finish at the Lehigh University (Pa.) Paul Short Run on September 30.  He placed third overall, completing the 8,000-meter course in 24:00.2.  A total of 43 teams competed, including several National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division I schools.  A total of 392 runners completed the race.

Keyser Helterbrand, Sr., Hudson (H.S.), Football
    Helterbrand accounted for six touchdowns in UWL's 45-40 win over UW-Stout on September 30.  He finished 11-of-21 passing for 297 yards with four touchdowns while totaling 128 yards rushing and two touchdowns on 15 carries.  Helterbrand threw a pair of 77-yard touchdowns in the game.  His 297 passing yards and four touchdowns both set single-game career-highs.  Helterbrand's two rushing touchdowns also tied a career-high.  He recorded his fourth career 100-yard rushing game. 

September 18-24
Allison Balduzzi, So., Onalaska (H.S.), Golf
    Balduzzi earned medalist honors in helping lead the Eagles to the team title at the UW-La Crosse Fall Invitational on September 23-24. She carded rounds of 74-78 for a two-day total of 152 (+10). Balduzzi took the individual crown by seven strokes as the Eagles won the seven-team field with a two-day total of 626 (314-312), winning by 22. 

Maia Samuelson, Fr., New Berlin (Eisenhower), Tennis
     Samuelson won the Midwest Invitational Singles Flight A title with a 4-0 record. She opened the tournament with a victory (6-0, 6-0) over Maggie Hall of Simpson College (Iowa) followed by a win (6-1, 6-1) over Jordan Scharf of UW-Stevens Point. Samuelson defeated teammate Izabelle Brinkman in the semifinals (6-1, 6-1) and captured the individual crown over Erin Horzewski of Carroll University (Wis.) in the championship (6-1, 6-2).

September 11-17
Maddie Hannan, Sr., Minneapolis, Minn. (Southwest), Cross Country
    Hannan placed third out of 219 runners at the Carleton College (Minn.) Running of the Cows on September 16. She completed the 6,000-meter course in 22:02.80 in leading UWL to a second-place team finish. It was her fastest opening time of her career and her third fastest time overall. 
Elias Ritzke, Jr., Poynette (H.S.), Cross Country
     Ritzke helped lead UWL to the team title at the Carleton College (Minn.) Running of the Cows on September 16. He completed the 8,000-meter course in 25:15.60 in finishing fifth overall out of 199 runners. Ritzke ran a personal-best by nine seconds.  

September 4-10
Ainsley Allan, Sr., Lake Forest, Ill. (H.S.), Soccer
    Allan scored five goals in three UWL victories, including a pair of game-winners. She had the winning goal in UWL's 3-0 victory at Concordia University Wisconsin on September 6, finishing with five shots, including two on goal. Allan then scored the winning goal in a 2-0 victory against Illinois Wesleyan University on September 9. The Titans were receiving votes on the United Soccer Coaches Top-25 Poll. She had six shots in the game with three on goal. Allan finished the week with three goals in a 4-2 win over Dominican University (Ill.) on September 10. She had seven shots with four on goal. For the week, Allan scored 10 points with 18 shots, including nine on goal.

Lauren Lindow, Fr., East Troy (H.S.), Tennis
     Lindow went 3-0 in singles, winning all three matches in straight sets. She opened WIAC play with a 6-0, 6-0 win at No. 2 singles at UW-Stout on September 9. Lindow then earned a pair of victories at No. 1 singles on September 10, defeating Chase Polyak of Ripon College (Wis.) by the scores of 6-0, 6-0 and Chloe Lamb of Lawrence University (Wis.) by scores of 6-2, 6-0. 

August 28-September 3
Brianne Korducki, Sr., Watertown (H.S.), Volleyball
     Korducki recorded 53 kills and 47 digs in helping lead UWL to a 4-0 start to the season at the Saint Mary's University (Minn.) Sugarloaf Classic on September 1-2. She finished with double digits in kills in all four matches and three matches with at least 10 digs. Korducki hit .419 (19-1-43) in a season-opening win over Carleton College (Minn.) with 19 kills and 12 digs. She had 10 kills, 14 digs, 2.0 blocks and two aces in a victory over Marian University (Wis.) and 14 kills, 15 digs, 2.0 blocks, two assists and two aces in a win over College of St. Scholastica (Minn.). Korducki finished the tournament with 10 kills, six digs and two aces versus Lawrence University (Wis.) while hitting .643 (10-1-14). For the week, Korducki averaged 4.08 kills, 3.62 digs and 4.73 points per set while hitting .407 (53-9-108). 

Jack Studer, Sr., Eyota, Minn. (Dover-Eyota), Football
    Studer caught six passes for 158 yards and one touchdown in UWL's 31-6 victory at Dakota State University (S.D.) on August 31. He averaged 26.3 yards per catch. Studer's 47-yard touchdown catch in the second quarter gave UWL a 17-0 lead.
