A total of 60 teams earned bids to the 2023 NCAA Division III Championships. Fourteen regional sites will have four teams competing and two regional sites will have two teams competing. The four-team regionals will use a double-elimination format. The two-team regionals will use a best-of-five series. The 16 teams advancing from regionals will compete in a two-team, best-of-three tournament at eight super regional sites on Friday-Saturday, May 26-27. Winners of the eight super regionals tournaments will qualify for the double-elimination championship in Cedar Rapids, Iowa from Friday-Thursday, June 2-8. The final two teams will compete in a best-of-three series to determine the national champion.

Forty-one conference champions qualified automatically (Pool A) while two Pool B and 17 Pool C at-large bids were awarded. Pool B comprises independent institutions and institutions that are members of conferences that do not meet the requirements for automatic qualification.  Pool C is reserved for institutions from automatic-qualifying conferences that are not their conference champions and the remaining teams in Pool B.

UW-La Crosse (Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference); Bethany Lutheran, Minn. (Upper Midwest Athletic Conference) and Bethel, Minn. (Minnesota Intercollegiate Intercollegiate Athletic Conference) secured automatic bids after winning its conference tournaments. Buena Vista, Iowa (American Rivers Conference) earned an at-large bid to this year's championships.
