University of Wisconsin-La Crosse student-athletes earned the 2015-16 Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) All-Academic Award, the league office announced Thursday. It marks the 14th time in the last 15 years the UWL student-athlete cumulative grade point average (3.230) was higher than the combined GPA of UWL's overall student body (3.190).
UWL is one of five instutitions to earn the 2015-16 WIAC All-Academic Award, joining UW-Eau Claire, UW-Platteville, UW-Stout and UW-Whitewater.
UWL finished second in the WIAC Academic Standings with its 3.230 grade point average. UW-Stout led the conference with a 3.251 GPA while UW-Eau Claire was third at 3.222.
The Eagles recorded 367 student-athletes with a cumulative GPA of 3.00 or higher. UW-Eau Claire finished with a conference-leading 379 student-athletes earning a 3.00 or higher while UW-Whitewater was second with 368.
The WIAC All-Academic Award winners and Scholastic Honor Roll recipients are both sponsored by Badgerland Financial, the official sponsor of the "WIAC Scholar-Athlete Recognition Program."
During the 2015-16 academic year, nearly 50 percent of the 5,007 student-athletes competing in the conference achieved a 3.00 GPA or better (on a 4.00 scale) and were named to the WIAC Scholastic Honor Roll.
