A Letter from the Athletic Dirctor
Dear prospective student-athletes,
Building Champions. In Sport. In School. In Life.
Our mission in UW-La Crosse Athletics may be simply stated, but it embodies a broad set of ideals that pervades every corner of our program. UW-L student-athletes embrace the challenge of striving for excellence in everything they do, athletically, academically, and socially. Their record of achievement speaks for itself:
• More national championships than any other school in the WIAC;
• Teams and individuals competing for conference and national titles every year;
• A combined student-athlete GPA that consistently ranks highest among all WIAC schools, including a 3.186 GPA in 2011-12;
• Ten times in the last 11 years that our student-athletes have posted a combined GPA that has exceeded that of UW-L’s general student body; and
• A record of exceptional work on campus and in the community.
To what do we attribute our program’s success? Three words:
We. Us. Ours. Our people believe in the power of the collective whole. UW-L student-athletes do not tackle the significant challenges of being a college student-athlete alone. They are surrounded by people who will change their lives. A team of talented, enthusiastic, and dedicated coaches. A committed support staff. And, most importantly, nearly 600 student-athletes, all of whom share their goals.
We think there has never been a more exciting time to be an Eagle. Students choosing to join our team get the best of both worlds: the chance to study at one of the nation’s preeminent comprehensive institutions while also having the opportunity to carry on, and advance, the proud tradition of a leading NCAA Division III intercollegiate athletics program. We will be the best. To get there,
however, we need people committed to excellence. We need you.
Come join us. Your life will never be the same.
Respectfully yours,
Josh Whitman
