Baseball Finishes Regular Season With A Sweep Of UW-Oshkosh; Eagles Play Thursday At WIAC Tournament

La Crosse, Wis. - The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse Baseball team finished the regular season with a sweep of Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) foe UW-Oshkosh Saturday afternoon.

THE BASICS

  • Records: UW-La Crosse 30-10, WIAC 21-7, UW-Oshkosh 16-23, WIAC 12-16
  • Up Next: UWL will be the number two seed in the WIAC Tournament May 7-9. The Eagles will travel to tournament host and #1 seed UW-Whitewater to face #3 seed UW-Eau Claire. First pitch is scheduled for 3 p.m. on May 8. UWL took three of four from UW-Eau Claire during the regular season. 

HOW IT HAPPENED
   
Game One 
  • Unlike yesterday, UWL wasted no time getting on the scoreboard as they took a 4-0 lead after three innings. With one out in the first inning, Charley Rowan reached on a fielding error and advanced to second when Luke Walton walked. Brady Burrill drove in Rowan from second with a single for the early 1-0 lead. In the second inning Chris Calico's RBI single scored Emiliano Ramos who had walked and stole second base. Andrew Palm would give UWL a 4-0 lead with a two-run home run in the bottom of the third inning. It was Plam's sixth home run of the season. 
  • UW-Oshkosh would get a run in the top of fifth inning on Owen Housinger's single to left field which scored Jack MaNamara.
  • Brady Burrill put UWL up 6-1 with a two run home run in the bottom of the fifth inning.
  • UWL would break it open in the sixth inning as they scored eight runs on six hits. Emiliano Ramos led off with a double and scored on AJ Levy's single through the right side. After Calico walked, Rowan singled to scored Levy to make it 8-1. Walton followed with a double which scored both Calico and Rowan. Burrill would then hit his second two-run home run of the day to put UWL up 12-1. A two run double by pinch hitter Evan Schmidt gave UWL a 14-1 lead.

    Game Two
  • In game two, UWL took a 1-0 lead in the third inning on an RBI single by Walton which scored Calvin Hargrove from second. Hargrove had walked and advanced to second when Calico reached on a fielders choice.
  • Ramos would give UWL a 2-0 lead with his seventh home run of the year. 
  • The Titans would get a run in the top of the sixth inning on Jack McNamara's RBI single that scored Logan Schill to make it 2-1. 
  • The Eagles would get that run back in their half of the sixth inning as Ramos hit his second solo home run of the game to put UWL up 3-1. 
  • The Titans would threaten in the ninth inning as Aaron Davis and Brenden Max each singled to start the inning. Eagle relief pitcher Austin Olla would record a strikeout before a flyout to right field allowed Davis to move to third. With two outs and runners on the corner, Olla stuckout Jack McKellips to record his second save of the weekend series.

Game One
  • Offensively, UWL finished with 14 runs on 11 hits and six walks. 
  • Burrill led the Eagles offensively as he finished 3-for-4 2 HRs, five RBIs and two runs scored.
  • Ramos finished 2-for-2 with a double and two runs scored while Walton was 1-for-1 with three walks, two RBIs and three runs scored. 
  • Chayce Osterhaus (4-0) earned the win for the Eagles as he allowed one run on four hits and one walk while striking out seven in 6.0 innings of work. 
  • Connor Walters (3-4) was credited with the loss as he allowed allowed eight runs on seven hits and four walks in 5.0 innings. 
  • The Titans finished with one run on five hits and one walk. 
  • Housinger led the Titans going 2-for-4 with an RBI.

 Game Two
  • UWL finished with three runs on seven hits and two walks in game two.
  • Ramos led the Eagles in game two finishing 2-for-4 with two home runs. Ramos now has a team leading eight home runs. 
  • Trace Vrbancic (2-1) got the start for the Eagles and went 5.0 innings, allowing just three hits and a walk while striking out one to win his second game of the year. Olla (S,4) pitched the final 3.0 innings, allowing three hits and striking out five for the save. 
  • UW-Oshkosh finished the second game with one run on eight hits and a walk.
  • Baris Brua (3-4) suffered the loss for the Titans as he allowed three runs on six hits and two walks while striking out eight in 6.2 innings. 
  • Shill led the Titans offensively as he finished 3-for-4 with a run scored while McNamara was 1-for-3 with a walk and an RBI.
