Baseball Sweeps UW-Platteville; Burrill (2), Ramos, Walton, Lash And Levy Hit Home Runs

Platteville, Wis. - The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse Baseball team snapped a four game losing streak as they swept a doubleheader with UW-Platteville on Wednesday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED
   
Game One 
  • UWL jumped out to a 12-0 lead after three innings including scoring seven runs in the third inning. In the first inning, Brady Lash drove in Chris Calico from second with a single up the middle while Brady Burrill brought home Charley Rowan with a bunt single. UWL added three runs in the second inning Calico drove in a run with a single, Lash hit a sacrifice fly and Burrill scored a run with a single to make it 5-0. Then in the third inning Luke Walton hit his second home run of the season which scored Andrew Palm who had doubled earlier in the inning. With one out, Rowan doubled to left field which scored Emiliano Ramos and Calico to put UWL up 9-0. Lash and Burrill would then hit back-to-back home runs to make it 12-0. 
  • The Pioneers would get on the scoreboard in the bottom of the fourth as Mason Molito singled to center field and scored Kaleb Elwood from second. 
  • Burrill would put UWL up 14-1 with his second home run of the game which scored Lash who had singled prior to Burrill. The two-run home run was Burrill's fourth of the season. 
  • Evan Bohr would hit a two run home run for the Pioneers in the fifth inning to cut their deficit to 14-3. 
  • UWL would add three runs in the top of the sixth as Matthew Sonnenschein's double scored two runs while Lash hit his second sacrifice fly of the day to make it 17-3. 
  • Owen Bernhardt would pinch hit in the bottom of the seventh inning and hit a two-run home run for the final runs of the game. 

    Game Two
  • Calico led off game two with a walk and stole second base. He would then move to third on Lash's ground out. Burrill would then reach first on a fielding error which allowed Calico to score from third. 
  • The Pioneers would get that run back in the bottom half of the first inning as Anthony Massa hit a solo home run to center field. 
  • AJ Levy would put UWL back on top with his fist home run of the season.
  • UW-Platteville would take a 4-2 lead as they scored three runs on four hits and an error in their half of the second inning. 
  • Ramos would help the Eagles cut the Pioneers lead to 4-3 as he hit his third home run of the season in the top of the fourth inning. 
  • Calico walked to lead of the fifth inning and moved to second on Rowan's single. Lash the executed a sacrifice bunt to move Lash and Calico to second and third base. Burrill would walk to load the bases and after a fly out was recorded, Keegan Fleischman doubled to center field to bring home all three runners and give UWL a 6-4 lead. 
  • The score would remain 6-4 until the top of the ninth when Rowan led off with a single and moved to third on Lash's single. Burrill would then bring Rowan home with a bunt to give UWL an insurance run (7-4).
  • The Pioneers did not go away quietly as cut their deficit to 7-6 on Mason Molitor's two run double with one out in the bottom of the ninth. However, that would be all the Pioneers would score as the next two batter were retired via a strikeout and a ground out.

FROM THE BOX SCORE
   
Game One
  • Offensively, UWL finished with 17 runs on 19 hits and one walk. 
  • UWL finished with five guys recording multi-hit games including Burrill (4-for-4, HR, 5 RBIs, two runs scored), Ramos (3-for-3, 2b, 2 runs scored), Calico (3-for-4, RBI, 3 runs scored and 2 stolen bases), Lash 3-for-3, HR, 5 RBIs and two runs scored) and Walton (3-5), HR, 2 RBIs, and 3 runs scored). 
  • Austin Olla (2-1) earned his second win of the year as he went 5.0 innings and allowed three runs on five hits and no walks while striking out three. 
  • The Pioneers finished with five runs on seven hits.
  • Jordan Stanton (3-2) suffered the loss for the Pioneers as he allowed five runs (three earned) on seven hits while striking out two in 2.0 innings of work.  
  • Bohr (1-2, HR, 2 RBIs) and Bernhardt (1-for-1, HR, 2 RBI) led UW-Platteville offensively. 
 Game Two
  • UWL finished with seven runs on eight hits and seven walks in game two.
  • Rowan finished 2-for-5 with two runs scored while Levy was 1-for-3 with a home run to lead the Eagles offense.
  • Lash was 1-for-2 with two walks and Calico reach base three ties via walks and scored two runs for the Eagles. 
  • Owen Deprez (3-1) made the start for the Eagles and got the win as he allowed four runs on six hits and four walks while striking out seven in 5.2 innings of work. Ethan Pettis (1) picked up the save as he came on in relief to pitch the final 3.1 innings, allowing two runs on two hits and five strikeouts. 
  • UW-Platteville finished the second game with six runs on eight hits and four walks.
  • Carver Kamentz (1-2) was credited with the loss as he came on in relief for the Pioneers and allowed four runs on four hits and three walks in 2.2 innings. 
  • Massa finished 2-for-5 HR and two runs scored while Spencer Robertson was 1-for-2 with an RBI and a run scored  to lead the Pioneers  offensively.
