Baseball Picks Up First Win Of 2026 Season; Osterhaus Strikes Out Six In Win

Sauget, Ill. - The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse Baseball team picked up its first win of the 2026 season as they defeated Buena Vista University (Iowa) 11-0 on Sunday afternoon.

  • Up Next: UWL will head to Davenport, Florida the week of March 16 for their annual spring break trip to play in the Russmatt Central Florida Invitational. The Eagles first game is against Amherst College (Mass.) on March 16th at 4:15 p.m. (CST).

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Charley Rowan led of the game with a walk and stole second base before Chris Calico singled up the middle to move Rowan to third. Emiliano Ramos would then bring Rowan in to score when he grounded out to third. 
  • UWL would add a run in the top of the third inning as Calico walked and stole second. Then with two outs, Luke Walton was hit by a pitch followed by a Brash Lash that brought Calico in to score. 
  • Evan Schmidt would double to lead off the top of the fourth inning while Calvin Hargrove reached via a walk. Rowan then moved Schmidt and Hargrove up a base with a sacrifice bunt. Calico then reached on a fielding error that allowed Schmidt to score and Hargrove to go to third. Ramos then made it 4-0 Eagles with a single to right field to score Schmidt. 
  • In the fifth inning, Walton was hit by a pitch, went to second on a wild pitch and moved to third on a single by Keegan Fleischman. After Fleishman stole second, Walton scored and Fleishman went to third on a passed ball. Fleishman would later score with two outs on a wild pitch to make it 6-0 in favor of the Eagles. 
  • UWL would add two more runs in the sixth as Calico walked, stole second and went to third on Andrew Palm's double. Calico then scored when Walton grounded out to first base while Palm scored on a wild pitch to put UWL up 8-0. 
  • The Eagles would score the final three runs of the game in the top of the seventh as Brady Burrill drove in a run with a double, Ramos scored on a wild pitch and Burrill scored on a passed ball.  

FROM THE BOX SCORE
  • Offensively, UWL finished with 11 runs on eight hits and nine walks.
  • Calico went 1-for-2 2 with two walks, two runs two stolen bases and one run batted in (RBI) while Rowan finished 1-for-3 with a walk and two runs scored to lead the Eagles offense.
  • Ramos would add two RBIs and a run scored while Burrill, Walton, Hargove and Lash each drove in a run. 
  • Chayce Osterhaus (1-0) picked up his first win of the season by going 5.1 innings and allowing five hits and a walk while striking out six. 
  • Buena Vista finished with five hits and a walk. 
  • Dylan Johnson suffered the loss for the Beavers by allowing six runs (five earned) on five hits and five walks while striking out two in 4.1 innings.  
  • Connor Duong led the Beavers offense by going 2-for-3.
