Dubuque, Iowa - The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse wrestling team competed at the University of Dubuque (Iowa) Invitational Sunday. No team scores were record.
All 11 of UWL's wrestlers placed in the tournament, including a pair of champions. The Eagles'
Kellen Kelly captured the 149-pound title while
Caden Weber won the 285-pound championship.
Kelly went 4-0, opening with a technical fall (15-0) over Nate Wood of Cornell College (Iowa). He won by technical fall (19-3) over UW-Stevens Point's Hunter Bozile in the quarterfinals and by decision (8-3) over Caleb Nobiling of UW-Stevens Point in the semifinals. Kelly won the title with a fall (6:09) over Eureka College's (Ill.) William Tucker.
Caden Weber
Weber also finished 4-0 in winning the title. He won by fall (4:45) over Michael Upson of UW-Stevens Point in the first round followed by a fall (5:00) over Braden Vermeulen of Luther College (Iowa) in the quarterfinals. Weber won by decision (4-1) over teammate
Asher Sheldon in the semifinals and captured the championship with a decision (4-2) over Jaydn Cooper of Wartburg College (Iowa).
UWL's
Aiden Slama (125-pounds),
Zane AlObaidi (149),
Kolt Knaack (157) and Sheldon (285) all placed third on Sunday with 3-1 records. Knaack earned one win by fall and Sheldon two.
Braedon Dorshorst (157),
Ashton Meister (165) and
Landon Odegard (285) finished fourth with Odegard recording one win by fall.
The Eagles'
Grant Madl (125) and
Ryan Lexvold (184) were sixth with each earning one win by fall.
UWL returns to action Saturday, February 14 at the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) Championships at UW-Eau Claire at 9 a.m.
