Seventeen Place at Central College Under Armour Invite; Magolski, Schneider and AlObaidi Win Championships

Pella, Iowa - The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse wrestling team competed at the Central College (Iowa) Under Armour Invitational Saturday. No team scores were recorded.

A total of 17 wrestlers placed in the invitational for UWL, including three champions.

Wyatt Magolski (133-pounds), Ryland Schneider (165) and Sedeeq AlObaidi (184) each won individual crowns. Magolski went 4-0 in the tournament. He opened with a win by fall (1:55) over Mitchell Pins of Wartburg College (Iowa) before a decision (3-0) over Ethan Skoglund of Northwestern University (Iowa) in the second round. Magolski won by decision (13-6) over Eli Sneed of Cornell College (Iowa) in the semifinals and took the championship with sudden victory (5-2) over Jayson Stevens of Cornell (Iowa).  

Schneider and AlObaidi each went 3-0 on Saturday. After a first round bye, Schneider won by technical fall (18-0) over Dominic Tigner (unattached) in the quarterfinals. He won by decision (8-1) over Kaleb Cordova of Grand View College (Iowa) in the semifinals and took the title with a fall (1:56) over teammate Ashton Meister.

AlObaidi also had a first round bye before winning by technical fall (19-3) over Nebraska Wesleyan University's Casey Kinnell in the quarterfinals. He won by major decision (9-0) over teammate Kash Macumber in the semifinals and captured the division with a major decision (12-4) over Saint John's University's (Minn.) Carson Gellerman.

Three wrestlers placed second on Saturday with Aiden Slama (125), Kolt Knaack (157) and Meister (165). Slama and Meister each went 2-1 in the tournament while Knaack finished 3-1 with one win by fall.

Aidan Baum (149) and Henry VanderHeiden (285) placed third on Saturday. Baum went 3-1 on the day while VanderHeiden finished 2-1 with one win by fall.

UWL had five wrestlers finish fourth with Roman McKinney (125), Marcus McIntyre (141), Macumber (184), Landon Odegard (285) and Asher Sheldon (285). McKinney, McIntyre and Macumber went 2-2 while Sheldon finished 1-1 and Odegard went 1-2. Macumber, Sheldon and Odegard each earned one win by fall.

Cole Gentsch (125), Kellen Kelly (149) and Caden Weber (285) each finished fifth while Mycah Beckett (141) was sixth.

Gentsch and Kelly each went 4-1 with Gentsch earning three wins by fall. Weber went 1-1 with his win by fall with Beckett finishing 3-2 with two victories by fall.

UWL's Teague Holzer (133), Jack Krier (149) and Ryan Lexvold (184) each finished 0-2.

UWL returns to action Friday, January 9 at the National Wrestling Coaches Association (NWCA) National Duals in Cedar Falls, Iowa.
