Stevens Point, Wis - The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse women's swimming & diving team leads after the first day of competition at the UW-Stevens Point Invitational Friday night in the UWSP Aquatics Center.
The Eagles lead with 676. points with Gustavus Adolphus College (Minn.) second with 513.0 and UW-Stevens Point third with 295.0.
UWL won the 200 freestyle relay Friday with
Ellie Brown,
Ava Pulvermacher,
Greta Wiskus and
Libby Cleveland (1:35.44). The Eagles' 400 medley relay of Cleveland,
Zoey Rank,
Shefali Ramakrishnan and Wiskus were second (4:01.65).
The 200 freestyle relay set the UWSP Aquatics Center facility record, breaking the previous time of 1:35.88 set by UW-Stevens Point in 2007.
Individually,
Hannah Martini won the one-meter diving competition (393.40 points) while
Eden Mortensen was second (380.30).
The Eagles won five swimming events on Friday, including two by Pulvermacher in the 200 I.M. (2:11.67) and 200 butterfly (2:14.44). Rank was second (2:15.14) and
Ella Stadler third (2:15.25) in the 200 I.M. with Ramakrishnan third (2:20.77) in the 200 butterfly.
Rank won the 200 breaststroke (2:32.30), Wiskus the 100 freestyle (53.48) and
Avary Calonder the 100 backstroke (1:02.30).
Stadler finished second (2:35.14) and
Emily Hauke third (2:35.70) in the 200 breaststroke while
Elizabeth Barton placed third (1:03.09) in the 100 backstroke.
Elizabeth Barton finished third (55.26) in the 100 freestyle.
UWL's
McKenna Biegler finished second (5:19.46) and
Ava Newman third (5:19.56) in the 500 freestyle.
UWL returns to action Saturday, January 24 in the second day of action at the UW-Stevens Point Invitational. Action starts at 10 a.m.
