La Crosse, Wis. - The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse women's tennis team earned a 4-3 victory over UW-Whitewater in its home opener Friday afternoon at Green Island Tennis Park. The Eagles opened the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) season with the win in improving to 2-0 overall. The Warhawks drop to 1-1 overall and 1-1 in the WIAC. 

It marks the second straight season UWL earned the dual victory over UW-Whitewater. The Eagles snapped a 17-match losing streak to the Warhawks with a 5-4 victory last season in Whitewater. It was UW-Whitewater's first league dual loss since UWL's 6-3 victory in 2006. The Warhawks had won 102 consecutive duals. 

The Eagles won two of the three doubles matches on Friday to earn one team points. The Eagles' Hannah Cady/Maia Samuelson earned the win at No. 2 doubles (6-3) while Lily Jorgenson/Caitlyn Stadtker took the No. 3 doubles match (7-6). 

The teams split the six singles matches with Stadter, Jorgenson and Cady earning wins for UWL. Stadter won at No. 4 singles over Crystina Lee by retirement while Jorgenson earned the victory at No. 5 singles (6-1, 7-5) over Kaitlyn Remke. Cady picked up the win at No. 6 singles (6-1, 6-1) against Abigail McIsaac. 

UW-Whitewater took the singles matches at No. 1, No. 2 and No. 3 singles with the duals going three sets at No. 2 and No. 3.
