Whitewater, Wis. - The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse softball team was eliminated in the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) Tournament (presented by Culver's) with a 9-0 loss in six innings to UW-Platteville Friday afternoon at van Steenderen Complex.
The fourth-seeded Eagles drop to 22-19 on the season while the fifth-seeded Pioneers improve to 25-15 and will face top-seeded and host UW-Whitewater on Saturday, May 10 at 11 a.m.
The game was scoreless until the top of the fourth on Friday when UW-Platteville's Melissa Dietz led-off with a home run to make it 1-0.
UW-Platteville added three runs in the top of the fifth to extend its lead to 4-0. Rylee Broshous hit a pinch-hit home run to start the inning. Mia Savage was hit-by-pitch with two outs and scored on Allison Peters' two-run home run.
In the top of the sixth, the Pioneers tallied five runs on six hits. Taylor Roughen's single scored Greta Volkening to make it 5-0. Peyton Murphy delivered a grand slam to give UW-Platteville a 9-0 lead, knocking in Alex Davis, Broshous and Roughen.
Kaeley Niemiec (6-6) took the loss for UWL, pitching 4.2 innings, allowing three hits, three run and one walk while striking out three.
Brynne Bieri went 0.1 of an inning, allowing five hits, five runs and one walk.
Carmen Follette pitched 0.2 of an inning with two hits and one run allowed.
Madi Lee pitched 0.1 of an inning.
UWL was held without a hit in the game with Lindsey Steien the only runner to reach base on a two-out walk in the bottom of the second.
Bentley Cuts and Morgan Erickson combined for the no-hitter for UW-Platteville. Cuts (2-1) picked up the win, going 4.0 innings, allowing one walk with eight strikeouts. Erickson pitched 2.0 innings, recording three strikeouts.
The Pioneers finished with 10 hits as Peters went 3-for-4 with two RBI and one run. Broshous finished 2-for-2 with two runs and an RBI. Murphy had a team-high four RBI.
