Baseball Defeats St. Olaf College For Nonconference Win

La Crosse, Wis. - The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse Baseball team picked up a non-conference win over St. Olaf College (Minn.) Wednesday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Chris VandenHeuvel led off the bottom of the first inning with a walk and advanced to second when Jack Olver was hit by a pitch. Then with two outs, VandenHeuvel stole third base and scored on a throwing error while Olver advanced to second on the error. Mac Born then doubled to score Olver to put UWL up 2-0. 
  • Then in the bottom of the second inning Andrew Rajkovich hit his team leading eighth home run to extend UWL's lead to 3-0.
  • George Seaman would keep pace with Rajkovich for team lead as he hit his eighth home run of the season to make it 4-0.
  • St. Olaf would get on the scoreboard in the top of the fourth inning with an unearned run. Jack Pettit would lead off the inning with a single and advanced to second on Matthew Kulesa's single. Pettit then advanced to third on a double play ground out and scored when Christopher Woodside reached on a fielding error. 
  • UWL would get that run back in the bottom half of the inning as Nate Witte walked to start the inning and advanced to third on a failed pick off attempt and throwing error. Anthony Vivian would then bring Witte home with a sacrifice fly to give UWL the 5-1 lead. 
  • In the fifth inning, Seaman led off with a walk and stole second base prior to Born reaching via a walk. Emiliano Ramos then singled to load the bases. After a strikeout, Seaman would score on a wild pitch while Born would score on a ground out by Calvin Hargrove to extend UWL's lead to 7-1. 
  • Kulesa would hit his second home run of the season for St. Olaf in the sixth inning to cut their deficit to 7-2.
  • With one out in the Eagle half of the sixth inning, Olver would single followed by Seaman's second home run of the game to give UWL a 9-2 lead. 
  • St. Olaf would load the bases in the eighth inning with no outs. After a fly out, Mason Buck reached on a fielders choice which scored Frank Lavin. That would be the only run for St. Olaf for the final score of 9-3.

FROM THE BOX SCORE
  • Offensively, UWL finished with nine runs on seven hits and nine walks.
  • Seaman led the Eagle offense as he finished 3-for-4 with two home runs, one walk, three RBIs and three runs scored. 
  • Born finished 1-for-3 with a walk, RBI and run scored while Rajkovich was 1-for-3 with a home run, a walk, an RBI and a run scored. 
  • Owen Anderson (2-1) earned his second win of the season as he allowed two runs (one earned) on three hits and a walk while striking out eight in 7.0 innings of work. 
  • St. Olaf finished with three runs on four hits and four walks.
  • William Silton (0-2) suffered the loss for St. Olaf as he allowed four runs (three earned) on three hits and four walks while striking out two in 2.1 innings. 
  • Kulesa led the St. Olaf offense as he finished 2-for-4 with a home run, an RBI and a run scored.
