Baseball Drops 2025 Season Opener In Top-10 Match Up With La Verne

La Verne, Calif. - The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse baseball team opened the 2025 season with a top-10 match up as they fell 8-1 to La Verne University Friday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • La Verne took a 4-0 lead after four innings as they scored a single run in each of the first four innings. 
  • The Leopards would then score four runs in the bottom of the fifth inning to take an 8-0 lead. La Verne would score four runs on three hits and one error in the fifth. 
  • The Eagles would get their lone run in the top of the seventh inning as Andrew Rajkovich led off with a single and advanced to third on Aaron Schwechler double. Rajkovich then scored on Cam Dupont sacrifice fly to center field.  
  • UWL would not threaten to score in the final two innings.

FROM THE BOX SCORE
  • Offensively, UWL finished with one run on four hits and two walks. 
  • George Seaman led the Eagles offense going 2-for-4 while Rajkovich was 1-for-4 with a run scored. 
  • Isaiah Katz (0-1) suffered the loss for the Eagles as he allowed three runs on seven hits in 3.0 innings of work. Katz finsihed with four strikeouts.
  • Trace Vrbancic pitched the final three innings for the Eagles as he did not give up a hit or a walk and struck out two. 
  • La Verne scored eight runs on 12 hits and two walks.
  • La Verne was led offensively by Noah Garcia who finished 3-for-5 with two RBIs and two runs scored while Benny Vogel was 2-for-4 with two runs scored.
  • Justin Ries (1-0) earned the win on the mound as came on in relief to pitch the final 5.1 innings allowing one run on two hits and one walk while striking out seven.
