Eagles Extend Win Streak To Four Games With Win Over Hope College

Davenport, Fla. - The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse baseball team extended their win streak to four games as they defeated Hope College (Mich.) on Thursday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • As has been the trend all week, UWL got things going offensively right away. Nate Witte led of the game with a single and advanced ot third on Chris VandenHeuvel's single. Witte would then score when Mac Born grounded into a double play to give UWL a 1-0 lead in the first inning. 
  • The Flying Dutchmen would get that run back in the bottom half of the first inning as they would score an unearned run on one hit and an error.
  • The first four Eagles to bat in the second inning would reach base safely and UWL would send 10 hitters to the plate in the inning. Anthony Vivian and Luke Walton led off with singles. Vivian then scored and Walton moved to third on Jack Olver's double. Andrew Rajkovich would score Walton from third when he reached via an error. With the bases loaded, VandenHeuvel drove in two runs when he reached on an error to put UWL up 5-1. Born drove in a run with a sacrifice fly while George Seaman's double made it 7-1. 
  • Rajkovich's triple drove in a run and he scored when Alec Campbell reached on an error to extend UWL's lead to 9-1 in the third inning
  • Al Money would drive in two runs for the Flying Dutchmen with his single to cut their deficit to 9-3. 
  • Rajkovich led off the fifth inning with a double and advanced to third on Cambell's fly out. VandenHeuvel's single would then score Rajkovich to give UWL a 10-3 lead.
  • Three straight singles by Olver, Rajkovich and Campbell would produce a run to give UWL a 11-3 lead in the seventh inning.
  • With one out in the eighth inning, Walton walked and scored on Olver's second double of the game and final run as UWL led 12-3.

FROM THE BOX SCORE
  • Offensively, UWL finished with 12 runs on 16 hits and two walks.
  • VandenHeuvel, Olver and Rajkovich each finished with three hits for the Eagles.
  • VandenHeuvel also recorded three RBIs while Olver, Rajkovich and Campbell each drove in two runs.
  • Owen Anderson (1-1) earned his first win of the season on the mound as he allowed three runs (two earned) on 10 hits and one walk while striking out six in 7.0 innings of work.
  • Ian Sanders suffered the loss for the Flying Dutchman as he allowed nine runs (three earned) on nine hits while striking out one in 4.0 innings.
  • Carter Perry led the Hope offense as he finished 2-for-4 with a run scored.
