UWL Splits Opening Games in Rochester; Lee Throws Complete-Game Shutout

Rochester, Minn. - The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse softball team split a pair of games Saturday at the Rochester Community Technical College (RCTC) Dome, earning a 9-0 victory in five innings over Macalester College (Minn.) before falling, 8-0 in five innings to St. Olaf College (Minn.).
 
UWL is now 4-2 on the season.
Madi Lee earned the complete-game
shutout over Macalester (Minn.).
 

Madi Lee (2-0) earned the complete-game win versus Macalester (Minn.), pitching 5.0 innings, allowing two hits and two walks while striking out five.
 
UWL scored six runs in the bottom of the first. Brooke Howard scored the first run on a Macalester (Minn.) error. Kyra Lard followed with an RBI single to score Cristin Casey to make it 2-0. Lard later scored on a Josie Flom infield single and Marissa Pease came in after Ava Jaehnke reached on an error to extend the lead to 4-0. Flom later scored on a Carly Gross RBI groundout and Jaaehnke came in on a Lindsay Steien single. 
The Eagles added three runs in the second on Flom's three-run home run scoring Pease and Nicole Zoellner.
 
UWL finished with seven hits as Flom went 2-for-3 with two runs and four RBI. Pease went 2-for-3 with two runs.
 
Tess Bojorquez (1-1) suffered the loss for Macalester (Minn.). She went 1.0 inning, allowing four hits, six runs (one earned) and one walk. The Scots had two hits with Safiya Butler and Elizabeth Welch each finishing with one.
 
St. Olaf (Minn.) took a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning in its win over UWL. Roxanne Ring had a two-run single, scoring Shreya Ashok and Medora Rylee.
 
The Oles added two runs in the third and four in the sixth. Eva Hokanson had an RBI single and Madyn Singleton an RBI double in the third. In the sixth, Elle Brandt hit a home run while Rylee added a run-scoring single. Hokanson's two-run single ended the game.
 
Josie Flom went 2-for-3 with two
runs and four RBI vs. Macalester (Minn.)

Kaeley Niemiec (0-1) suffered the loss for UWL, pitching 2.1 innings, allowing five hits, four runs and two walks with two strikeouts.
 
The Eagles had four hits with Steien finishing 2-for-2.
 
Singleton (1-0) earned the victory for St. Olaf (Minn.), going 4.2 innings, allowing three hits and one walk with two strikeouts. The Oles totaled 10 hits as Rylee went 3-for-3. Hokanson had three RBI.
 
UWL returns to action Sunday, March 2 at the RCTC Dome versus Hamline University (Minn.) at 10 a.m. and Bethel University (Minn.) at 2 p.m.
