La Crosse, Wis. - The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse soccer team is set to host UW-Platteville on Sunday, November 9 in the championship game of the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) Tournament (Presented by Culver's). Game time is 1 p.m. at Veterans Memorial Field Sports Complex.
The Eagles enter the title game as the one-seed while the Pioneers are the second-seed. UWL enters the game at 17-2-1 overall while UW-Platteville is 8-5-6. The winner earns the conference's automatic bid to the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division III Championships.
It marks the third straight season UWL and UW-Platteville are meeting in the tournament championship game with UWL winning the previous two meetings. UWL earned a 3-0 victory in 2023 and a 2-1 win last season. The Eagles are 3-0 all-time versus the Pioneers in the WIAC Tournament with a 6-0 victory in the 1993 quarterfinals.
UWL advanced to the championship game with a 9-0 victory over fourth-seeded UW-Stevens Point on November 7 at Veterans Memorial Field Sports Complex.
UWL is 23-23-3 all-time in the WIAC Championships. The Eagles are making their 31st all-time appearance in the WIAC Championships and seeking its seventh tournament title (1996, 2017-18, 2022-24) in school history. UWL is playing in its 11th tournament championship game, including ninth straight.
UW-Platteville is seeking its first tournament championship in school history. The Pioneers advanced to Sunday's title game with a shootout victory over UW-River Falls in Platteville. The game ended 0-0 in double overtime before UW-Platteville won, 5-3, in penalty kicks.
UWL and UW-Platteville finished in a 1-1 tie on October 22 at Veterans Memorial Field Sports Complex.
