UWL Earns Shutout Victory at UW-Stevens Point in Regular Season Finale; Awaits NCAA III Bid

Box Score Stevens Point, Wis. - The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse football team concluded its regular season with a 52-0 victory at UW-Stevens Point Saturday afternoon at Community Stadium at Goerke Park.

The Eagles, ranked 14th on D3football.com, improve to 7-2 overall and 5-2 in the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) while the Pointers drop to 4-6 overall and 1-6 in the conference.
Gabe Lynch finished with 136 yards rushing.


It is UWL's first WIAC shutout victory since a 42-0 win at UW-Eau Claire on November 10, 2018. The Eagles earned their first shutout over the Pointers since a 24-0 victory in La Crosse on October 1, 2005.

UWL will await word if its earned an at-large bid to the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division III Championships. The 40-team field will be announced Sunday, November 16 at 4 p.m.

UWL earned its eighth straight win over UW-Stevens Point.

After both teams punted on its first possessions of the game, UWL took a 7-0 lead with 8:35 left in the first quarter on Nolan Mosier's seven-yard touchdown pass to Jack Janke. Michael Stack converted the extra point. The touchdown was set-up by Mosier's 44-yard pass to Janke prior to the touchdown connection.

UW-Stevens Point fumbled on its next drive with UWL's Christian Powell recovering the ball at the Pointers' six-yard line. Three rushes by Gabe Lynch, including the final one from one-yard out for a touchdown, gave UWL a 14-0 lead with 6:18 remaining in the quarter.

The Pointers turned the ball over on downs on the ensuing drive and the Eagles took advantage with Mosier throwing a six-yard touchdown pass to Janke with :55 left in the first half to extend UWL's lead to 21-0.

Mosier's third touchdown pass of the game, this one for 34-yards to Marko Rajkovic, with 6:42 remaining in the second quarter gave the Eagles a 28-0 lead. Lynch had a 24-yard run on the drive.

Stack finished the first half scoring with a 28-yard field goal with :09 left for a 31-0 lead.

The Pointers' Charlie Smith was intercepted by Sam Baumgard on UW-Stevens Point's opening possession of the second half with the Eagles taking over at the Pointers' 11-yard line. Braeden Ott scored on a nine-yard run with 12:20 left in the third quarter to make it 38-0. Mosier's six-yard touchdown run with :16 remaining in the quarter extended the lead to 45-0. Maddox Pratt converted the extra-point.

Owen Leitel finished the scoring with an eight-yard touchdown run with 5:14 left in the fourth quarter.

UWL finished with 454 yards, including 262 rushing and 192 passing. The Eagles recorded 26 first downs and went seven-of-13 on third-down. UWL was seven-of-seven in the red-zone and won the time of possession, 35:51 to 24:09. 

Mosier went 15-of-23 for 192 yards with three touchdowns. Lynch led the Eagles with 136 yards rushing on 15 attempts (9.1 average) while Leitel finished with 55 yards on 12 carries and Ott had 53 yards on nine rushing attempts. Janke caught six passes for 81 yards and two touchdowns.

UW-Stevens Point totaled 167 yards with 63 rushing and 104 passing. The Pointers finished with 10 first downs while going one-of-15 on third-down. 

Smith finished seven-of-20 passing for 51 yards with two interceptions. Brycen Cashin led the Pointers with 34 yards rushing on 12 carries while Brayden Wiczek had three receptions for 32 yards.

UWL's Ethan Tranel had three of his four punts inside the 20-yard line. Caden Weber led the Eagles with nine tackles. UWL finished with 6.0 tackles for loss, including 4.0 quarterback sacks.

UW-Stevens Point's Jack Luedtke had 13 tackles while Joe Berens finished with 11.
