Volleyball Drops Two at Illinois College Invitational

Jacksonville, Ill. - The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse volleyball team dropped two non-conference matches on day two of the Illinois College Invitational.

THE BASICS

  Adrian College (Mich.) 3 defeated UW-La Crosse 1, Carroll University (Wis.) 3 defeated UW-La Crosse 2

Adrian College (Mich.) 3, UW-La Crosse 1 (20-25, 25-17, 25-22, 25-16)
  • UWL took an early 6-3 lead in first set before Adrian would take its first lead of the set at 15-14. The Eagles would score the next three points and hold on to win the first set 25-20. 
  • After scoring six straight to take an early 8-4 lead, Adrian would not trail taking the second set 25-17.
  • UWL would score five of the first seven points in the third set but Adrian would score eight of the next ten points to lead 10-7. UWL would slowly chip away at their deficit and would tie it at 18-18. UWL then took a 22-21 lead but Adrian would score the final four points to take a two set to one lead. 
  • Adrian scored 11 of the first 14 points in the fourth set and never trailed as they took set four 25-16.
Carroll University (Wis.) 3, UW-La Crosse 2 (25-21, 20-25, 25-22, 26-28, 15-9
  • Carroll University would not trail in the first set as they led by as many as five (14-9). UWL would cut their deficit to 22-21 but Carroll would score the final three points to take the first set 25-21.
  • After Carroll took an early 8-5 lead in set two, UWL scored seven of the next nine points to take a 12-10 lead. Trailing 16-13, UWL went on an 8-2 run to lead 21-18 and would not trail the rest of set two. 
  • With the third set tied 10-10, Carroll scored five straight points to lead 15-10. UWL would take a 21-20 lead before Carroll scored five of the next six points to win set three 25-22.
  • The fourth set was tied at 10-10 before UWL went on a 7-3 run to lead 17-13. Carroll would take a 20-19 lead before UWL led 24-23. The two teams would trade points until the Eagles scored two straight to win set four 28-26.
  • Carroll jumped out to an early 6-2 lead before UWL would take a time out in the fifth set. The Eagles would cut their deficit to 8-5 but that would be as close as they would get as Carroll scored seven of the final 11 points. 
FROM THE BOXSCORE
  • Kayla Sexton recorded her first career double-double as she finished with 12 kills and 10 digs in loss to Adrian. Gabby Johnson and Paige Geiser each add nine kills.
  • Jackie Oetterer finished with a double-double as well as she recorded 28 assists and a team high 13 digs. 
  • UWL would finish with three hitters in double digits against Carroll as Johnson led the way with 17 kills. Geiser (12) and Sexton (11) joined Johnson in double figures. 
  • Oetterer finished with 41 assists and 14 digs for her second double-double of the day while Sexton also had her second double-double as she finished with 11 digs.
