Whitewater, Wis. - The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse women's tennis team opened its 2024-25 season with a 5-4 dual victory at UW-Whitewater Friday afternoon at the Warhawk Outdoor Tennis Complex. The Warhawks were also playing their season opener.
It marks UWL's first dual win over UW-Whitewater since a 6-3 victory on October 7, 2006, snapping a 17-match losing streak to the Warhawks. It is also UW-Whitewater's first league dual loss since UWL's win in 2006. The Warhawks had won 102 consecutive WIAC duals.
With the win, UWL head coach
Bill Hehli recorded his 800th career dual victory with the Eagles. He improves to 800-367 (.686) overall in his 30th season, including 441-141 (.758) with the women's team and 359-226 (.614) with the men's squad. He is the all-time wins leader in women's WIAC history.
UWL won two of the three doubles matches to start the dual on Friday.
