Baseball Wins FInal Regular Season Home Game; Defeats St. Olaf College

La Crosse, Wis. - The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse baseball team defeated St. Olaf College (MN) in a non-conference game Tuesday afternoon at Copeland Park.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Both teams would score a run in the first inning as St. Olaf's Cole Pleimann drove in a run with a single in the top half of the inning. In the bottom of the first, Nate Witte doubled and advanced to third on a wild pitch and scored on a wild pitch.
  •  In the bottom of the second, Jack Olver led off with a single and advanced to second with one out on a single by Tim Urlaub. Jack Moran would then score Olver with a single to left field.
  • St. Olafs would then score three runs on four hits in the third inning to take a 4-2 lead. Joey Glampe, Pleimann and Brian Nevin each drove in a run with a single.
  • The Eagles would get two of those runs back in their half of the third inning on a two run home run by Mac Born to tie the game at 4-4. 
  • In the fifth inning, Sam Lavin gave St. Olaf a 5-4 lead with a solo home run.
  • The Eagles would retake the lead in the bottom half of the fifth inning with two runs on three hits and an error. With one out, Born singled and advanced to second on a failed pick off attempt and throwing error. George Seaman then doubled which scored Born to make it 5-5. Anthony Vivian was then hit by a pitch and with two outs, Logan Pye doubled which scored Vivian to give UWL a 6-5 lead.
  • Glampe tied the game for St. Olaf with his second RBI single of the game in the top of the seventh.
  • With one out in the bottom of the seventh, Seaman hit his team leading 11th home run of the season to make it 7-6. The Eagles would add six more runs in the seventh inning as Witte, Chris VandenHeuvel (2), and Born each drove in runs for UWL.
  • UWL added three more runs in the eighth inning as Travis Rae doubled with one out and scored on Sam Viniard's double. WIth the bases loaded, Witte reached on a fielders choice which scored a run while a run scored on a passed ball for the final run. 

FROM THE BOX SCORE
  • Offensively, UWL finished with 16 runs on 15 hits and six walks. 
  • Born led the Eagles offense going 3-for-5 with a home run, three RBIs and two runs scored.
  • Also finishing with three hits (3-for-5) was VandenHeuvel along with 2 RBIs and two runs scored.
  • Seaman finished with a home run, a double, two RBIs and two runs scored for the Eagles. 
  • Also finishing with two hits was Vivian (2-for-3), Olver (2-for-3) and Pye (2-for four). 
  • Chayce Osterhaus (1-0) pitched 0.2 innings of relief to earn the win as he retired the only two batters he face.Trace Vrbancic got the start for the Eagles as he allowed five runs on seven hits and three walks while striking out five in 4.1 innings.
  • St. Olafs scored six runs on nine hits and three walks,
  • Pleimann (3-4), Matthew Kulesa (2-for 4) and  Glampe (2-4) led St. Olafs. 
  • Sean Goldman (0-1) allowed four runs (one earned) on one hit and two walks in 0.1 innings of work.
