Milwaukee, Wis. - The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse softball team swept a non-conference doubleheader at MSOE (Wis.) Saturday afternoon at MSOE Raiders Field, winning the opener, 9-1 in five innings and the nightcap, 4-0.
UWL improves to 10-12 on the season while MSOE (Wis.) drops to 7-9.Â
The Eagles scored a pair of runs in the top of the first in the opener with
Brooke Howard leading-off with a triple and scoring on
Kyra Lard's one-out double to make it 1-0.
Jordyn McCormack had a two-out RBI double to score Lard later in the inning.Â
UWL added to its lead with six runs in the fourth and one in the fifth. Lard delivered a two-run double and
Abbey Bosch a two-run single in the fourth while McCormack added an RBI double and
Marissa Pease an RBI single.
Cristin Casey had a sacrifice fly in the top of the fifth.Â
MSOE (Wis.) scored its lone run in the bottom of the fifth. Caroline Fouras scored on a Jenna O'Donnell single, but Faith Matta was thrown out at third to end the game.Â
Elise Weinzierl (3-4) earned the win for UWL. She went 2.0 innings with two strikeouts. The Eagles finished with 11 hits, including two each from Howard, Lard, McCormack and Lindsey Steien.Â
Remington Stark and
Brynne Bieri combined on the shutout in the nightcap. Stark earned the win, pitching 4.0 innings, allowing three hits and three walks while striking out four. Bieri picked up the save, going 3.0 innings, allowing one hit with one strikeout.Â
The Eagles took a 2-0 lead in the top of the first. Howard singled and stole second to start game. Lard and Bosch walked to load the bases with one out. McCormack followed with an RBI single to score Howard with Lard being thrown out at the plate. Pease followed with a two-out single to knock in Bosch.Â
UWL added two runs in the fifth. Lard doubled to lead-off the inning and advanced to third on a passed ball. She then scored on a Bosch single for a 3-0 lead and Pease later made it 4-0 scoring on a
Anna Jensen single.Â
UWL finished with 12 hits in the second game with Casey going 3-for-4 and Jensen 2-for-3.Â
Four different players recorded a hit for MSOE (Wis.). Finnley Olsen suffered the loss, pitching 7.0 innings, allowing 12 hits, four runs and three walks while striking out three.Â
UWL returns to action Wednesday, April 10 hosting Saint Mary's University (Minn.) at 2:30 p.m. at North Campus Field.
