Eagles Sweep UW-Platteville; VandenHuevel Hits Four Home Runs

La Crosse, Wis. - The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse baseball team hit eight home runs and recorded 32 hits as they swept UW-Platteville 12-4 and 14-0 on Saturday afternoon.

A PLAYERS PERSPECTIVE HOW IT HAPPENED
   
Game One 
  • The Eagles got on the scoreboard right away as they scored four runs on five hits in the bottom of the first inning. Chris VandenHuevel led off with a single and advanced to second on a fly out by Nate Witte. Jack Olver then doubled to score VandenHuevel. George Seaman then singled to score Olver and make it 2-0. After a strikeout, Mac Born hit his fourth home run of the season to give UWL a 4-0 lead. 
  • UWL added a run in the second inning as Jack Moran singled and moved up to second base when VandenHuevel walked. Seaman would then drive in his second run of the game with a single to give UWL a 5-0 lead. 
  • UW-Platteville would score a run in the third inning as Slate Higa doubled, stole third and scored on a throwing error.
  • Logan Pye led off the Eagles half of the third inning with a double and advanced to third on a ground out. Pye then scored on a single by Moran to extend UWL's lead to 6-1.
  • UW-Platteville would cut their deficit to 6-3 as Charlie Breen and Wyatt Molitor each hit solo home runs in the fifth inning.
  • VandenHuevel would give UWL a 7-3 lead with his second home run of the season in the sixth inning. 
  • UWL would extend their lead to 11-3 in the seventh inning Born and VandenHuevel each hit their second home run of the game. Born's was a solo shot while VandenHuevel's came with two runners on.
  • The Eagles would score their final run of the game in the eighth inning on an RBI double by Emiliano Ramos to make it 12-3.
  • UW-Platteville would get a run in the ninth inning on a single by Justin Fago.
    Game Two
  • With the game scoreless entering the bottom of the third inning, UWL would score five runs on five hits. VandenHuevel led off with a double and advanced to third on Witte's single. After a strikeout, Seaman doubled to score VandenHuevel while Born singled to score both Witte and Seaman. Pye then hit his third home run of the season to give UWL a 5-0 lead. 
  • UWL would extend their lead to 9-0 in the fourth inning. With one out, VandenHuevel would hit his third home run of the day. Witte then reached on a throwing error and scored on a double by Olver. Seaman reached by being hit by a pitch. Olver then scored on a single by Pye. After a walk for Andrew Rajkovich, Calvin Hargrove reached on a dropped third strike which scored Seaman to make it 9-0.
  • VandenHuevel would lead of the fifth inning with his second home run of the game to put UWL up 10-0. Witte then singled and advanced to second when pinch hitter James Rae singled. Seaman then doubled to score both Rae and Mark Manders who pinch ran for Witte. 
  • The Eagles would add the final two runs of the game in the sixth inning as Hargrove led off with a single and scored on Keegan Fleischman's first home run of the season.

Game One
  • Offensively, UWL finished with 12 runs on 17 hits and three walks.
  • VandenHuevel led the Eagles in game one by going 3-for-4 with four RBIs, three runs scored and two home runs. 
  • Born finished the game 2-for-3 with both hits a home run. He also recorded three RBI and two runs scored. 
  • Also finishing with multi hit games for the Eagles was Moran (3-for4), Seaman (2-for-4) and Pye (2-for-4). 
  • Owen Anderson (2-0) earned the win on the mound going 6.1 innings and allowing three runs on eight hits and two walks while striking out five. 
  • As a team, UW-Platteville finished with four runs on nine hits and three walks.
  • Justin Fago led the Pioneers offensively by finishing 3-for-5 with an RBI.
  • Brady Hoppert (1-2) suffered the loss by allowing five runs on seven hits and two walks in 1.2 innings of work. 
      Game Two
  • Offensively, the Eagles scored 14 runs on 15 hits and one walk.
  • VandenHuevel once again led the Eagles as he finished 3-for-5 with two home runs, two RBIs and three runs scored.
  • Pye went 2-for-3 with a home run and three RBI while Seaman was 2-for-4 with three RBI and two runs scored.
  • Also recording two hits for the Eagles was Witte (2-3, two runs scored) and Born (2-for-3, two RBI) 
  • Alex Redman (1-0) earned the win on the mound as he went 5.0 innings and allowed three hits and a walk while striking out five.
  • As a team, UW-Platteville finished with three hits and a walk.
  • Jake Wegner led the Pioneers going 2-for-3.
  • Jordan Stanton (0-3) suffered the loss for UW-Platteville as he allowed six runs on seven hits while striking out five in 3.1 innings.
