Eagles Offense Records 19 Hits as They Defeat William and Jefferson

Davenport, Fla.. - The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse baseball team recorded 19 hits to help lead them past William and Jefferson College (Pa.) Sunday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Eagles offense got going right away as they scored three runs on four hits in the top of the first inning. Nate Witte led off with a double and advanced to third on a ground out. Jack Olver then singled to score Witte. George Seaman then singled to move Olver to second and they moved up a base when Tim Urlaub walked. Chris VandenHeuvel then singled to score both Seaman and Olver to make it 3-0.
  • UWL would make it 6-0 in the second inning as they scored three more runs. Anthony Vivian would drive in two of the runs with a single while Seaman drove in the third run with a single of his own.
  • William and Jefferson would get the scoreboard in their half of the second inning as Eli Owens drove in a run with a single. 
  • VandenHeuvel would make it 7-1 in the third inning on his first home run of the season. 
  • Then with one out in the fourth inning, Vivian would double and advance to third on a ground out. After Urlaub and VandenHeuvel each walked to load the bases, Brady Burrill tripled to center field to make it 10-1. 
  • The Presidents would load the bases with two out in the fourth inning and score a run when Jacob LaDuca was hit by a pitch. 
  • Jack Moran would drive in a run (11-2) in the sixth inning which scored VandenHeuvel who had hit a double earlier in the inning. 
  • Then in the seventh inning, Logan Pye hit his first home run of the year to make it 12-2.
  • William and Jefferson would score two runs in the seventh, eighth and ninth inning to cut their deficit to 12-8 but that would be as close as they would get. Zac Stern hit a two-run home run for the Presidents in the eighth inning.

FROM THE BOX SCORE
  • Offensively, UWL finished with 19 hits and three walks.
  • The Eagles finished with four players recording three hits including Witte (3-for-6), Olver (3-for-6), Vivian (3-for-4) and VandenHeuvel (3-for-4 and a walk).
  • VandenHeuvel and Burrill each drove in three runs for the Eagles. 
  • Daniel Reischl (1-1) came on in relief for the Eagles to earn the win as he allowed four runs on five hits and a walk while striking out three in 4.0 innings of work. Owen Deprez started for the Eagles going 4.0 innings and allowing two runs (one earned) on six hits while striking out seven.
  • Anthony Pass (1-1) suffered the loss for William and Jefferson as he gave up 10 runs (seven earned) on 10 hits and three walks while striking out four.
  • Dezenzo and Nolan Lutz each went 3-for-5 to lead the Presidents offensively. Dezenzo also scored two runs while Lutz drove in two runs.
