Baseball Drops Non-Conference Game to Rowan University

Davenport, Fla.. - The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse baseball team's ninth inning rally comes up short as they fell to Rowan University (N.J.) Thursday afternoon.

  • National Ranking: UW-La Crosse is ranked seventh on this weeks d3baseball.com Top-25 Poll while Rowan Univeristy is rnaked 19th on this weeks poll. 
  • Up Next: After an off day on Friday, UW-La Crosse will return to action on Saturday, March 15 when they face Western New England University (Mass.) at 12:00 p.m.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Jack Olver got the Eagles on the scoreboard first as he hit his first homerun of the season .
  • The Profs of Rowan University would get the run back in the bottom of the second as Jason Morgan led off with a triple and scored on a ground out.
  • With the score tied 1-1 in the sixth inning, Rowarn scored two runs on a 2-RBI single from Dylan Maria .
  • The Eagles would make it 3-2 in the seventh when Chris VandenHeuvel recorded a one out single, advanced to second on a single by Jack Moran and moved to third when Nate Witte was hit by a pitch. Mac Bortn then drove VandenHeuvel in on a sacrifice fly.
  • Rowan would add a run in the bottom half of the seventh a Joey Bogart hit a home run to make it 4-2.
  • Phil Sedalis would make it 5-2 Rowan with a home run  by Phil Sedalis, to lead of the eighth 
  • Moran would lead off the ninth with a single while Nate Witte hit his first home run as an Eagle, to cut UWL's deficit to 5-4. But that would be as close as UWL would get as they would manage just one more base runner. 

FROM THE BOX SCORE
  • Offensively, UWL finished with nine hits and three walks.
  • Witte finished 2-for-4 with a home run, 2 RBIs, run scored and a stolen base.
  • Also recording multi-hit games for the Eagles was Olver (2-5) and Moran (2-4). 
  • Isaiah Katz (0-1) suffered the loss as he went 8.0 innings, allowing five runs on eight hits while striking out seven. 
  • Zach Coluccio (2-0) earned the Rowan Univerrsity going 6.2 innings and allowing two runs on seven hits while striking out two Maria pitched the ninth to earn the save.
  • Phil Sedalis led Rowan offensively as he finished 3-for-4 with home run, two runs score and an RBI while Tyler Cannon went 2-fo-4 with a run scored.
