Baseball Falls to The College of New Jersey

Auburndale, Fla. - The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse baseball team fell 15-7 to The College of New Jersey Tuesday afternoon at Lake Myrtle Park.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The College of New Jersey scored four runs on three hits in the first inning.
  • UWL would get three of those runs back in the bottom half of the first inning as Nate Witte led off with a walk and advanced to third on Mac Born's double. George Seaman then walked to load the bases. Anthony Vivian singled to score both Born and Witte. Logan Pye then walked to load the bases again. After a strikeout, Chris VandenHeuvel singled to score Seaman to pull the Eagles to within 4-3.
  • With one out for the Eagles in the second inning, Born walked and advanced to second on a single by Jack Olver. Seaman then doubled to score both Olver and Born to give UWL a 5-4 lead.
  • The College of New Jersey would score four runs on three hits in the fourth inning to regain the lead 8-5. Ryan Goodall delivered a 3-run double to break a 5-5 tie. 
  • UWL would cut their deficit to 8-7 by scoring a single run in the fifth and seventh inning. Jack Moran drove in a run in the fifth on a ground out while Cam Dupont singled to score Vivian who had reached on a double in the seventh.
  • However that would be as close as UWL would get as The College of New Jersey scored seven runs over the final two innings. UWL would only manage three base runners over the final two innings. 

FROM THE BOX SCORE
  • Offensively, UWL finished with nine hit and 10 walks.
  • Born reached base four times including a double and three walks. He also scored two runs for the Eagles.
  • Olver, Vivian and Dupont each had two hits apiece for the Eagles.
  • Daniel Reischl (0-1) suffered the loss on the mound for the Eagles as he allowed seven runs on six hits and a walk while striking out two in 3.1 innings of work.
  • Jack O'Shea (1-0) earned the win for the Lions as he came on in relief to allow one run on one hit and two walks while striking out four in 3.0 innings.
  • Mike LaGravenis, Goodall and Jack Haynes each had three hits for the Lions. Goodall also finished with six RBIs.
