Volleyball Ends Season With Loss To UW-Eau Claire

La Crosse, Wis.  - The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse volleyball team dropped their final match of the season with a Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference loss to UW-Eau Claire Friday night.

HOW DID IT HAPPEN
  • UW-Claire scored the first four points pf the match and extended their early lead to 7-3. Three straight kills and a Blugold hitting error would tie the score up at seven. UW-Eau Claire scored eight of the next 11 points to take a 15-10 lead. The Eagles would slowly chip away at their deficit and pull with in 18-17. However, UW-Eau Claire scored seven of the next nine points to win the first set 25-19.
  • UW-Eau Claire would once again get off to a fast start in the second set as they took an early 10-4 lead. The Eagles would use an 8-3 run to cut their deficit to 13-12. The Blugolds then went on a 11-3 run to take a 24-15 lead. With Jackie Oetterer serving, UWL would rattle off nine straight points to tie the score at 24. A Bailey Leeke kills would end the Eagles run and put UW-Eau Claire up 25-24 before UWL tied it at 25 after a hitting errors by the Blugolds. UW-Eau Claire would then get a kills from Abby Stanwood and force an Eagle hitting error to take set two 27-25.
  • Trailing 10-4 in the third set, UWL seven of the next 10 points to cut their deficit to 13-11. The Blugold then scored five straight points and would not allow the Eagles any closer than three the rest of the way.

FROM THE BOX SCORE
  • As a team, the Eagles hit .054 and were led offensively by Paige Geiser and Kayla Sexton with six kills apiece. 
  • In her final match as an Eagle, senior Jackie Oetterer finished with 20 assists and 10 digs.
  • Joining Oetterer in double figures in digs was Taylor Larson with a team high 18 digs and Grace Nommensen with 11.
  • UW-Eau Claire hit .141 as a team and were led by Mya Cinamo with 13 kills while Abby Stanwood added nine.
  • Kaitlyn Erickson finished with 21 digs for the Blugolds while Ella Kiebel had 38 assists.
