Minneapolis, Minn. - The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse volleyball team went 0-2 on the first day of the Augsburg University (Minn.) Invitational Friday afternoon. The Eagles fell to #18-ranked Gustavus Adolphus College (Minn.) in the first match and Lakeland College (Wis.) in the second match.
THE BASICSÂ
Final Score: #18 Gustavus Adolphus College (Minn.) defeated UW-La Crosse 25-7, 25-22, 23-25, 17-25, 15-10. Lakeland College (Wis.) defeated UW-La Crosse 16-25, 25-22, 15-25, 25-17, 15-11. Â

GUSTAVUS ADOLPHUS (Minn.) 3, UW-LA CROSSE 2
- The first set was all Gustavus (Minn.) as they held UWL to just one kill while hitting .345 as a team.Â
- The second set saw the Eagles take a 6-3 lead as they scored five straight kills. With the score tied at 10, the Gusties scored seven of the next eight points to lead 17-11. UWL would cut their deficit to 23-21; however, Gustavus (Minn.) scored two of the final three points to take the second set.Â
- Trailing 17-13 in the thrid set, UWL scored eight of the next 11 points to take a 21-20 lead. Two kills apiece from Brianne Korducki and Gabrialla Johnson sparked the run. The Eagles scored four of the final six points to force a fourth set.Â
- Gustavus (Minn.) would take a 11-9 lead in the fourth set but UWL went on a 6-0 run to tak a 15-11 lead. Two kills by Korducki and a service ace by Jackie Oetterer propelled the run. UWL would not trail the rest of the set as they took its largest lead at 24-16.
- UWL took a 4-2 lead in the fifth set before the score was tied at five. The Gusties took a 9-6 lead but the Eagles cut it to 9-8. Three straight kills allowed the Gusties to take control as they scored six of the final eight points.Â
- Gustavus (Minn.) is ranked 18th on this weeks American Volleyball Coaches Association/Taraflex Division III Top-25 poll.Â
Lakeland College (Wis.) 3, UW-La Crosse 2
- UWL got off to a fast start in the first set as they took an early 10-3 lead. UWL would never trail in the opening set with its largest lead coming at 24-13. Johnson and Anna Rossner each had four kills to lead the Eagles in the first set.
- In the second set, Lakeland (Wis.) led 15-10 before UWL was able to to battle back to take a 21-20 lead. However, the Muskies would get three kills, a service errors and two UWL hitting errors to close out the second set.Â
- Set three was all UWL as they allowed only four Lakeland (Wis.) kills while forcing seven hitting errors. Johnson and Justine Bastyr each had four kills to lead the Eagles.
- The Muskies jumped out to a 7-0 lead in the fourth set and never trailed. UWL was held to a .028 hitting percentage (nine kills, eight errors) while Lakeland (Wis.) hit .225 (13 kills, four errors).Â
- The fifth set was much the same as the fourth, as the Muskies took control early scoring six of the first seven points. The Eagles would not recover from the slow start as the Muskies hit .294 (nine kills, four errors) while UWL hit .167 (five kills, three errors).
FROM THE BOXSCORE
- Korducki picked up two more double-doubles as she finished wth 10 kills, 18 digs against Lakeland (Wis.) and 17 kills, 21 digs versus Gustavus (Minn.).
- Johnson led UWL with 16 kills and 11 digs against Lakeland (Wis.) while Bastyr and Yocum each had nine.
- Oetterer led the Eagles with a combined 37 assists and 23 digs.Â
- Marlee Turn led the Gusties with 15 kills and 15 digs while Kasie Tweet finished with 41 assists.Â
- Susana Stevens finished with a team high 17 kills for the Muskies while Brelynn had eight kills and 13 digs.Â
