Box Score Oshkosh, Wis. - The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse soccer team, ranked 12th on this week's United Soccer Coaches Top-25 Poll, opened Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) play with a 3-1 win at UW-Oshkosh Saturday night at J.J. Keller Field at Titan Stadium. The Eagles improve to 9-1 overall while the Titans, also playing their league opener, fall to 1-7-3 overall.
The Eagles scored all three of their goals in the opening half Saturday night. UWL took a 1-0 lead at 7:17 on a
Maggie Hernandez goal off a
Claire Cater assist. The Eagles made it 2-0 at 21:30 after
Ainsley Allan scored on
Chelsea Gale's assist. UWL extended the lead to 3-0 when
Sera Speltz scored at 31:43 off a
Kaitlyn Kurtz assist.
UWL outshot UW-Oshkosh, 12-1, in the first half. The Eagles had all four corner kicks in the first 45:00 of the game.
UW-Oshkosh cut the lead to 3-1 on Kate Whitney's unassisted goal at 60:56.
UWL finished with 19 shots, including nine on goal. Six different players recorded two shots. The Eagles had seven corner kicks. UW-Oshkosh totaled six shots with one on goal while finishing with three corner kicks.
Sophia Anger earned the win, playing the first half of the game.
McKenna Lloyd played the second half, finishing with one save. Emma Sauriol suffered the loss for UW-Oshkosh, recording six saves.
UWL returns to action Wednesday, October 4 hosting UW-Platteville at 6 p.m.
