La Crosse, Wis. - The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse baseball team concluded its regular season with a doubleheader sweep of UW-Eau Claire Saturday afternoon at the Viterbo University Outdoor Athletics Complex. The Eagles, ranked 16th on this week's D3baseball.com Top-25 Poll, won the opener, 13-1 in seven innings, and the nightcap, 3-2. UWL improves to 28-9 overall and 18-6 in the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) while UW-Eau Claire drops to 10-27 overall and 3-21 in the conference.
UWL advances to play in the WIACÂ Tournament (presented by Culver's) on May 11-13. The Eagles placed second in the league standings, one game behind first-place UW-Stevens Point (19-5). The Pointers will host the league tournament with the Eagles being the second-seed.
Ty Hamilton went 3-for-5 with three runs in the opener.
The Eagles scored nine runs in the bottom of the first in Saturday's opener.
Jack Moran singled to start the inning and went to second on
Jack Olver's single.
Mac Born walked to lead the bases and Ty Hamiton doubled to score Moran, Olver and Born for a 3-0 lead. After a strikeout,
Logan Pye delivered a two-run home run to score Hamilton to make it 5-0.
Tim Urlaub followed with a single. After a UW-Eau Claire pitching change and a line-out,
Chris VandenHeuvel walked. Moran's single scored Urlaub and Olver's single knocked in VandenHeuvel for a 7-0 lead. Born walked to load the bases and Moran and Olver both came in on a Blugolds' throwing error to make it 9-0.Â
UWL added to its lead with a run in the second and two in the third. In the second, Pye singled and advanced to third on Urlaub's double. VandenHeuvel's RBI groundout scored Pye. Olver, Born and Hamilton all singled to start the bottom of the third. Olver scored on
George Seaman's sacrifice fly and Born later scored on a wild pitch.Â
UW-Eau Claire got on the scoreboard in the top of the fourth on Andrew Murphy's sacrifice fly to score Ryan Casimier. UWL responded with a run of its own in the bottom of the fourth on VandenHeuvel's solo home run.Â

Tyler Schmitt went 6.0 innings in Saturday's opener.
Tyler Schmitt (6.0) earned the win for UWL, pitching 6.0 innings, allowing four hits, one run and one walk while striking out eight.
Preston Piranio went 1.0 inning with two strikeouts. The Eagles finished with 15 hits in the game. Pye went 3-for-3 with two runs and two RBI. Olver went 3-for-5 with three runs and an RBI while Hamilton finished 3-for-5 with three RBI and one run. Urlaub finished 2-for-2 with a run scored, Moran 2-for-4 with two runs and an RBI and VandenHeuvel 1-for-2 with two RBI, two walks and two runs. Born was 1-for-1 with two walks and two runs.Â
Aaron Skrype (1-2) took the loss for UW-Eau Claire. He went 0.1 of an inning, allowing five hits, six runs and one walk with one strikeout. The Blugolds totaled four hits.
In the nightcap, UWL took a 1-0 lead in the first on Born's home run. The Blugolds tied the game in the top of the third on Murphy's double scoring David Janssen.Â
UW-Eau Claire took a 2-1 lead in the sixth when Janssen was hit-by-pitch with the bases loaded to score Dustan Green. The Blugolds left the bases loaded as
Caleb Matl came in relief to record a strikeout. The Eagles regained the lead in the bottom of the inning. Urlaub singled with two outs and went to second when
Jordan Williams was hit-by-pitch. VandenHeuvel delivered a run-scoring single to knock in Urlaub and force a 2-2 tie. Moran followed with a single to left field to score Williams with the go-ahead run.Â
Matl (2-0) earned the victory, going 3.1 innings, allowing one hit while having six strikeouts.
Owen Deprez started, pitching 5.2 innings, allowing six hits, two runs and two walks with five strikeouts. UWL had nine hits with Urlaub going 3-for-3 with a run scored. Born went 2-for-4.
Logan Pye went 3-for-3 in the opener.
Ty Schafer (0-2) suffered the loss, pitching 8.0 innings, allowing nine hits, three runs and two walks while striking out three. UW-Eau Claire finished with seven hits. Matt Melendez and Connor Weik each went 2-for-3.Â
