Four Named to CSC Academic All-District® Women's At-Large Team

La Crosse, Wis. - Four University of Wisconsin-La Crosse student-athletes have been named to the 2023 Academic All-District® Women's At-Large Team, selected by the College Sports Communicators (CSC), the organization announced Tuesday. Senior gymnasts Kerrie Legault of Greenwood, Ind. (Center Grove) and Madi Vanderpool of Lenexa, Kansas (Shawnee Mission West), senior lacrosse player Abigail Steigauf of St. Paul, Minn. (Cretin-Dereham Hall) and junior golfer Andrea Schleeper of Fitchburg (Verona) were selected to the All-District® Team.

An exercise sport science major with a fitness track, Legault has a compilied a 3.97 cumulative grade point average. She has been a member of the Wisconsin Collegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) Scholastic Honor Roll and on UWL's Dean's List five semesters. Logo

She competed on the uneven parallel bars for the Eagles in 2022-23, capturing the title in duals versus Winona State University (Minn.), UW-Eau Claire, UW-Whitewater and Gustavus Adolphus College (Minn.). Legault placed fifth on the uneven bars at the WIAC Championships/National Collegiate Gymnastics Association (NCGA) West Regional. She also tied for second against UW-Oshkosh and fourth versus UW-Stout and in the UWL Triangular.  

Vanderpool is a biology major with a Spanish minor and 3.61 grade point average. She is a three-time member of the WIAC Scholastic Honor Roll and UWL's Dean's List eight semesters. Graduating with honors from UWL, Vanderpool was a two-year team captain for the gymnastics team. She has volunteered for Steppin' Out in Pink and Hunger Task Force. Vanderpool has also coached gymnastics at Hamilton Elementary School. 

Named to the 2023 All-WIAC Sportsmanship Team, Vanderpool earned NCGA All-America in a pair of events after finishing tied for fourth on the uneven parallel bars and tied for sixth on the balance beam. She tied for sixth on the uneven bars at the WIAC/NCGA West Regional. Vanderpool recorded 17 other top-five individual finishes during the 2023 season. She was third on the uneven parallel bars, fourth on the vault and fifth on the balance beam against Gustavus Adolphus (Minn.). Vanderpool also had two other duals with three top-six finishes. At the UW-Oshkosh Dual, she tied for second on the uneven parallel bars and finished fifth on the vault and balance beam. Versus UW-Eau Claire, Vanderpool tied for third on the uneven parallel bars and balance beam and tied for fourth on the vault. 

Steigauf, a sociology major with a 3.87 grade point average, has also been a member of the WIAC Scholastic Honor Roll three times. She graduated with High Honors and a member of UWL's Dean's List eight semesters. Steigauf volunteered with the UWL lacrosse team in Costa Rica over the winner, assisting with a clinic for local children. The lacrosse team also visited the Onalaska (Wis.) Boys and Girls Club teaching the basics of lacrosse. She a member of the National Society of Leadership and Success, the UWL Eagle Advocates and the UWL Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC). 

Starting 16 games in 2023, Steigauf finished fifth for UWL in goals (24) and fourth in points (29). She recorded at least two goals in eight games, including three versus Wartburg College (Iowa), Concordia University-Chicago (Ill.) and UW-Stout. Steigauf was fourth for the Eagles in shots (57) and shots on goal (43) while finishing second in ground balls (29) and draw controls (36). 

Schleeper has compiled a 3.70 grade point average while majoring in exercise sport science-pre-physical therapy. She is a two-year member of the WIAC Scholastic Honor Roll and UWL's Dean's List four semesters. Schleeper has volunteered for the Three Gaits Horses Theapy in Stoughton, Wisconsin as well as the La Crosse Children's Museum and the La Crosse and Holmen Boys and Girls Club. She is a member of UWL Pre-Physical Therapy Club. 

She has earned All-WIAC Second Team honors in 2021, 2022 and 2023. Schleeper played in 16 rounds in 2022-23, averaging 82.4. She recorded nine top-10 finishes in 11 tournaments, including capturing medalist honors at the UWL Fall Invitational. She also tied for first in the Viterbo (Wis.) Spring Invitational. Schleeper was second at the UW-Eau Claire Invitational and UWL Spring Invitational while placing third at the UW-Stout Spring Invitational. She tied for sixth at the UW-Stevens Point Invitational, seventh at the WIAC Championships, tied for eighth at the Viterbo (Wis.) Fall Invitational and tied for ninth at the UW-River Falls Invitational. 
 
The 2023 Academic All-District® Women's At-Large Teams, selected by College Sports Communicators, recognize the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances in the athletic realm and in the classroom. The CSC Academic All-America® program separately recognizes softball honorees in four divisions — NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III and NAIA. Academic All-District® honorees advance to the CSC Academic All-America® ballot.

First-, second and third-team Academic All- America® honorees will be announced June 22.

The Division II and III CSC Academic All-America® programs are partially financially supported by the NCAA Division II and III national governance structures to assist CSC with handling the awards fulfillment aspects for the 2022-23 Divisions II and III Academic All- America® programs. The NAIA CSC Academic All-America® program is partially financially supported through the NAIA national office.

To be nominated, a student-athlete must be a starter or important reserve with at least a 3.50 cumulative grade point average (on a 4.0 scale) at her current institution.
