Brown Deer, Wis. - The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse men's swimming & diving team is in third-place after the third day of competition at the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) Championships (presented by Culver's) Friday night in the Walter Schroeder Aquatic Center. The Eagles have 433.0 team points while UW-Stevens Point leads with 597.0 and UW-Eau Claire is second with 542.0.
UW-Whitewater is in fourth-place (292.0) and UW-Oshkosh fifth (170.0).
In Friday's action, UWL's 200 freestyle relay of
Blake Nelson,
Jackson Plautz,
Nicholas Litterer and
Will Quackenbush won the league title (1:23.31). It is the Eagles' first league crown in the 200 freestyle relay since Jacob Burchfield, Alec Carlson, Jack Rohlinger and Hans Hover took the title in 2019.
Mitchell Johnson was third (57.60) in the 100 breaststroke with
Jonathan Pella 10th (59.94) and Plautz 13th (1:01.97). Quackenbush led the Eagles in the 200 freestyle with a third-place finish (1:41.97) with Litterer seventh (1:44.32),
Connor Cleveland 11th (1:44.74) and
Andrew Perrin 12th (1:45.73).
Caleb Jondle finished fourth (4:11.64) in the 400 I.M. on Friday while
Sebiyam Werdin-Kennicott placed 11th (4:17.55) and
Jacob Jensen 15th (4:28.69).
In the 100 butterfly, the Eagles'
Jonah Elfers finished fourth (50.36),
Zach Vinson seventh (51.50) and
Mickey Keating 16th (56.87). Vinson was also fifth (52.24) in the 100 backstroke while
Brevin Kruse was ninth (54.36) and
Jesse Hammes 11th (54.64).
UWL returns to action with the final day of the WIAC Championships on Saturday, February 18 with preliminaries starting at 10 a.m. and finals at 6 p.m.
