Brown Deer, Wis. - The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse men's swimming & diving team is in third-place after the second day of competition at the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) Championships (presented by Culver's) Thursday night in the Walter Schroeder Aquatic Center. UW-Eau Claire is in first place with 299.0 points followed by UW-Stevens Point (294.0), UWL (247.0), UW-Whitewater (154.0) and UW-Oshkosh (107.0).
In Thursday's action, the Eagles had nine top-eight finishes including
Andrew Perrin finishing second (4:40.33) in the 500 freestyle. In the 200 I.M.,
Connor Cleveland finished sixth (1:56.93) while
Caleb Jondle was eighth (1:58.35). UWL had three of the top-six finishers in the 50 freestyle as
Blake Nelson finished fourth (21.15) followed by
Will Quackenbush fifth (21.36) and
Nicholas Litterer in sixth (21.39).
The 400 medley relay of Litterer, Mitchel Johnson,
Jonah Elfers and Quackenbush finished third with a school record time of 3:22.66. The relay broke the record of 3:22.69 set by
Stephen Hanko,
Jesse Gambrell,
David Flickinger and
Jackson Uselman set in 2014.
Also placing for the Eagles included
Sebiyam Werdin-Kennicott 12th (4:54.63) in the 500 freestyle while
Jonah Elfers (21.72),
Jesse Hammes (21.86) and
Jackson Plautz (21.92) placed 13th, 15th and 16th respectively in the 50 freestyle.
UWL had three of the top-eight finishers in one-meter diving with
Tony McNiff fourth (441.15 points)
Evan Zimdars seventh (382.10) and
Vance Winter eighth (380.60).
Tyler Herder was ninth (397.50) and
Joey Marchiando in 11th (337.40).
UWL returns to action Friday, February 17 at the WIAC Championships with preliminaries starting at 10 a.m.
