Men's Basketball Picks Up Road Non-Conference Win

Box Score Aurora, Ill. - The University of Wisconsin La Crosse Men's basketball team picked up a non-conference win Sunday afternoon as they defeated Aurora University (Ill.).

Next Up: The Eagles returns home on Wednesday, December 6 when they host Luther College (Iowa) at 7:00 p.m.
 
HOW DID IT HAPPEN
  • Aurora (Ill.) jumped out to an early 12-4 lead (15:05) and eventually took its largest lead of the game at 19-9 with 11:46 left in the first half. 
  • The Eagles then went on a 22-4 run to take a 31-23 lead with 6:26 left. Tarek Abdel Kireem sparked the run with three, three-pointers and a steal for the Eagles. 
  • The Spartans would slowly cut their deficit to 41-39 before Austin Westra hit two free throws with :04 left to give UWL a 43-39 lead at halftime. 
  • Leading 48-43, UWL scores 20 of next 28 points to take a 68-51 lead with 11:34 left in the game. Aurora (Ill.) would not get any closer than 11 (80-69) the rest of the game. 
  • A Sam Grieger three-pointer would give UWL its largest lead of the game at 94-75 with :50 remaining.

  • Grieger and Abdel Kireem led the Eagles with 20 points each.
  • Dustin Derousseau added 18 points on six-of-eight shooting from the floor and six-of-six from the free throw line. 
  • Jake Gross led UWL with eight rebounds to go along with nine points. 
  • As a team, UWL finished 32-for-61 (52.5%) from the floor including eight-of-18 (44.4%) from the three point line. The Eagles also shot 22-of-25 (88%) from the free throw line. 
  • Dwayne Jervier Jr led the Spartans with 13 points while Joevonn McCottry and Isaiah Davis each added 12 points. 
  • Aurora (Ill.) shot 27-of-65 (41.5%) from floor including 10-of-28 (35.7%) from the three points line. The Spartans were also 13-of-21 (61.9%) from the free throw line.
