La Crosse, Wis. – The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse women's swimming & diving team opened its 2023-24 home season with a 156-144 loss to UW-Eau Claire Saturday in the Richard L. Pein Natatorium.
The Eagles swept the diving competition on Saturday with
Erika Hysalliu winning the one-meter competition (240.80 points) and
Laci Gottschalk the three-meter (237.75).
Madeline Weber placed second (234.15) and Gottschalk third (228.55) in the one-meter while
Hannah Martini was second (223.45) in the three-meter.
UWL swept the relay events, including the 200-medley relay with
Libby Cleveland,
Lauren Steien,
Emily Schoenbrodt and
Kayla Knaffla (1:50.11) and 400 freestyle relay with Cleveland,
Paige Rundahl, Schoenbrodt and Knaffla (3:39.76).
Individually,
Kylee Sommer won the 100 backstroke (1:00.64) and
Autumn Seebach the 200 backstroke (2:11.28). Sommer was also second (2:13.25) in the 200 backstroke while Seebach finished third in the 200 freestyle (2:02.45) and fourth in the 200 I.M. (2:19.09).
Steien recorded three top-three finishes, placing second in the 200 I.M. (2:16.34) and third in the 100 breaststroke (1:09.48) and 100 butterfly (1:01.32).
Maddy Albert-Nelson finished second in the 100 (1:00.90) and 200 (2:16.00) butterfly. Rundahl was second in the 100 freestyle (54.99) and fourth in the 200 freestyle (2:02.51).
UWL's
Claire Vandenhouten placed fourth in the 500 (5:27.82) and 1,000 (11:10.39) freestyle.
Jordy Hahlen finished second in the 100 backstroke (1:00.80) and fourth in the 200 backstroke (2:16.17).

Knaffla was second (25.20) and Cleveland third (25.34) in the 50 freestyle while
Makenzie Wallace placed second (2:33.59) in the 200 breaststroke.
Abi Schauske finished third (2:22.27) in the 200 butterfly and
Sofia Badillo fourth (1:02.59) in the 100 backstroke.
UWL returns to action Friday, November 17 at the Luther College (Iowa) Invitational.
