Box Score River Falls, Wis. - The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse soccer team remained undefeated in Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) play with a 2-0 victory at UW-River Falls Saturday night at Smith Stadium at Ramer Field. The Eagles, ranked 10th on the United Soccer Coaches Top-25 Poll, improve to 12-1-1 overall and 4-0 in the WIAC. The Falcons drop to 6-4-3 overall and 1-2-1 in the conference.
It is UWL's 10th shutout of the season. The school record of 14 shutouts was set in 2017 and 2022. UWL has allowed five goals in 14 games this season.
The teams played to a 0-0 halftime tie on Saturday night as UWL out shot UW-River Falls, 12-1, in the opening 45:00. The Eagles had all six of the game's first half corner kicks.
UWL got on the board at 70:42 on
Maggie Hernandez' goal assisted by
Claire Cater to make it 1-0. The Eagles extended the lead to 2-0 at 74:10 as Cater scored off a
Natalie Schisel assist.
UWL finished with 27 shots Saturday, including 12 on goal.
Ainsley Allan led the Eagles with four shots while Hernandez, Cater,
Ellie Arndt and
Ellie Behnke each had three. Hernandez and Cater each had a pair of shots on goal. Fourteen different players recorded a shot for UWL.
Sophia Anger earned the win in goal, finishing with one save. UWL had all 13 corner kicks in the game.
UW-River Falls was held to two shots with one on goal. Ellie Ketcher had both of the Falcons' two shots, including one on goal. Kaylie Krueger recorded 10 saves. 000
UWL returns to action Wednesday, October 18 at UW-Stout at 7 p.m.
