La Crosse, Wis. - The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse Intercollegiate Athletics Department, the City of La Crosse Parks, Recreation, & Forestry Department and 15 area businesses in the building industry held a press conference Monday for the "Building Champions Kids Coulee Project."
A groundbreaking ceremony was held with the partnership for improving "Kids Coulee" located in Myrick Park in La Crosse. The first phase of the program includes a playground restoration with the second and third phases including new construction on the site.
Local businesses have joined in a partnership for Kids Coulee.
"I am so excited to see this project come together and am very proud to partner with these 15 businesses to make it happen," said UW-La Crosse Director of Athletics
Kim Blum. "This collaboration is so impactful for our community and I am extremely grateful for the support from this group of people."
Kids Coulee was built by over 3,700 volunteers. It includes a variety of play structures and an amphitheater.
Fifteen local businesses are participating in the project. The businesses include:

The 15 businesses involved in the project have financially supported the Kids Coulee project as well as the UW-La Crosse Intercollegiate Athletics Department.
This is the second "Building Champions" project between UWL, the City of La Crosse Parks, Recreation, & Forestry Department and local building business. The "Building Champions Trail", located in Hixon Forest opened in 2017. The "Building Champions Trail", located at N2788 County Rd FA in La Crosse, is 2.13 miles and includes a one-mile educational loop featuring savanna ecosystems, three goat prairies, and three scenic overlooks, as well as information about the plants and wildlife that utilize these areas.
