Second Half Rally Falls Short in Top-Seven Match-Up

Seth Anderson finished with a career-high 23 points Saturday night.
Box Score Oshkosh, Wis. - The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse men's basketball team, ranked seventh on this week's D3hoops.com Top-25 Poll, fell 80-77 at third-ranked UW-Oshkosh Saturday night in Kolf Sports Center. The Eagles drop to 19-4 overall and 9-4 in the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) while the Titans improve to 19-3 overall and 9-2 in the conference. 

UW-Oshkosh never trailed Saturday, racing out to a 12-4 lead on Eddie Muench's layup. The Titans took their largest lead of the first half at 24-12 with 8:53 remaining on a Muench three-pointer. The Eagles used a 10-2 run to cut the deficit ot 26-22 with 1:04 remaining on Torin Hannah's layup.  UW-Oshkosh finished the half scoring the final five points on a Jonah Rindfleisch layup and Munech three-pointer to make it 31-22 at halftime.

Seth Anderson's layup to open the second half cut the lead to 31-24, but Levi Borchert scored the game's next five points to give UW-Oshkosh a 36-24 advantage. The Titans took a 59-47 lead with 9:41 remaining and 65-54 with 7:18 left. The Eagles used a 7-0 run to cut it to 65-61 with 4:05 remaining on Anderson's layup. Hunter Plamann's layup with 3:43 left made it a six-point game, but Anderson followed with another layup with 3:25 remaining to make it 67-63. 

UWL later cut it to 69-66 with 1:53 left on Austin Westra's layup, but Plamann's three-point play with 1:34 remaining gave UW-Oshkosh a 72-66 lead. The Titans took a 74-67 lead with 1:01 left on Plamann's jumper, but the Eagles scored seven of the next eight points to cut it to 75-74 on Craig Steele's three-pointer with :08 remaining. Muench (:07 left) and Steele (:05) exchanged a pair of free throws to make it 77-76. Cole Booth hit two free throws for the Titans and 79-76 lead. Westra made the first free throw to cut it to 79-77 with :02 left, but Eric Peterson secured the rebound on the second one and was fouled with :01 left. He made one-of-two at the line to provide the final margin. 

UWL shot 48.4% from the field Saturday, including 33.3% (four-of-12) from three-point range, and 68.8% (11-of-16) at the free throw line. Anderson led the Eagles with a career-high 23 points and nine rebounds while Ethan Anderson totaled 20 points and seven rebounds. Steele finished with 14 points off the bench. 

UW-Oshkosh shot 53.6% from the field, including 52.0% (13-of-25) from three-point range, and 46.7% (seven-of-15) at the line. Muench led the Titans with 27 points, going seven-of-eight from three-point range. Plamann finished with 17 points, six rebounds and three assists while Borchert had 15 points, six rebounds and three assists. 

UWL returns to action Wednesday, February 16 hosting UW-Stout at 7 p.m. in the regular-season finale.
