Soccer Shuts Out UW-Eau Claire to Stay Unbeaten in WIAC

Box Score Eau Claire, Wis - The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse soccer team got a goal in each half to defeat UW-Eau Claire, 2-0, Saturday night at Simpson Field. The Eagles, ranked 17th on the United Soccer Coaches Top-25 Poll, improve to 11-1-1 overall and 3-0 in Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) action while UW-Eau Claire falls to 7-4-1 on the year and 1-1 in conference play.

The shutout is the Eagles seventh of the season and third straight in WIAC play.

Ellie Arndt scored the game-winner against UWEC.

The Eagles struck first in the 37th minute as Ellie Arndt scored her third goal of the season. Arndt has scored three goals in the last two games for the Eagles. The score remained 1-0 at halftime as UWL outshot UWEC 9-3 in the first half. 

Chelsea Gale would put the Eagles up 2-0 in the 78th minute as she got a pass from Lindsey Szymanski for her fourth goal of the season. The assist for Szymanski was her second of the season. The Eagles defense would not allow another shot by the Blugolds after taking 2-0 lead. 

As a team, UWL finished with a 13-5 advantage in shots including a 10-3 edge in shots on goal. Ainsley Allan led the Eagles with three shots while Gale, Szymanski and Claire Cater each had two shots. 

Elise Pinewski led the Blugolds with four shots including two on goal. 

Sophia Anger recorded her fourth shutout of the season by stopping all three shots she faced. Kennedy Boll recorded eight saves for the Blugolds. 

UWL returns to action on Wednesday, October 12 when it hosts Luther College (Iowa) at 6 p.m.
