Box Score La Crosse, Wis. - The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse soccer team earned its sixth shutout of the season by defeating UW-River Falls 6-0 Wednesday night at Veterans Memorial Field Sports Complex. The win moves the Eagles, ranked 17th on the United Soccer Coaches Top-25 Poll, to 10-1-1 overall and 2-0 in Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) play while the Falcons are now 9-2-2 on the season and 0-2 in conference action.
UWL recorded all six goals in the first half.
Ainsley Allan got the Eagles on the scoreboard first with her eighth goal of the season in the fifth minute.
Isabel Batley recorded the assist on the goal. Four minutes later,
Ellie Arndt gave the Eagles a 2-0 lead with an unassisted goal. Then in the 11th minute,
Alexis McMahon scored an unasssisted goal for her second goal of the season.
Alexis McMahon scored her second goal of the season.
Arndt would then record her second goal of the game and season in the 20th minute.
Lindsey Szymanski gave UWL a 5-0 lead with her third goal of the season.
Chelsea Gale assisted on the goal for UWL. The final goal of the first half for the Eagles was an own goal in the 35th minute.
UWL finished the contest with a 34-5 advantage in shots including 17-0 edge in shots on goal.
Rachael Janes, Allan and Arndt each finished with four shots to lead the Eagles.
Sophia Anger got the start in goal and played the first 45 minutes while
McKenna Lloyd played the final 45 minutes to combine for the shutout.
Grace Zellmer started in goal for the Falcons, playing 28 minutes and recording six saves. Kaylie Krueger played the final 62 minutes, making five saves.
UWL will return to action on Saturday, October 8 when it travels to UW-Eau Claire to play the Blugolds. Game time is scheduled for 7 p.m.
