UWL Earns Win over Wartburg in Regular Season Finale

La Crosse, Wis. - The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse volleyball team wrapped up its season with a 3-0 (25-23, 25-18, 25-20) win over Wartburg College (Iowa) Saturday afternoon in Mitchell Hall. The Eagles finish 13-17 on the season while the Knights, receiving votes on this week's American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Top-25 Poll, drops to 15-11. 

UWL honored seniors Megan Adams, Sydney Fedderly, Keller Frinzi, Summer Schwenn and Madison Weisenel prior to the match.

UWL never trailed in the opening set, racing out to a 9-3 lead. Wartburg (Iowa) cut the lead to 11-8, but three straight points gave UWL a 14-8 advantage. After the Knights went on a 3-1 run to cut the lead to 15-11, four straight points by the Eagles made it 19-11. Wartburg (Iowa) used a 9-4 run to trail 23-20. Brianne Korducki's kill gave UWL a 24-20 lead, but Wartburg (Iowa) scored the next three points to cut it to 24-23. After a UWL timeout, Kaity Coisman's kill gave the Eagles the first set win.  

Wartburg (Iowa) took a 6-3 lead in the second set when UWL scored five consecutive points for a 8-6 lead. Ella Luoma had three aces in the run. The Knights later cut it to 17-14, but the Eagles responded with a 5-0 run to lead 22-14. Wartburg (Iowa) could get no closer than five points the rest of the set. 

The Knights led, 15-11, in the third set when the Eagles went on a 9-2 run to take a 20-17 lead on a Schwenn ace. Wartburg (Iowa) trailed 21-20 after a UWL hitting error, but the Eagles scored the final four points to earn the win. Wartburg (Iowa) had two hitting errors and two bad sets for the final four points. 

Gabrialla Johnson led UWL with 11 kills with Korducki finishing with nine. Adams had a team-leading 29 assists and 10 digs. The Eagles hit .165 (36-18-109) for the match. Fedderly added nine digs and Luoma seven. Luoma had a team-high five aces. 

Allison Feigenbaum led Wartburg (Iowa) with 11 kills while Sophie Sedgwick had 13 assists and Emerson Kracht 11. The Knights hit .124 (33-19-133). Caroline Kluesner finished with a team-high 13 digs while Sedgwick had 10.
