UWL Remains Undefeated on Road with Win at UW-Whitewater

Whitewater, Wis. - The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse men's basketball team, ranked 10th on this week's D3hoops.com Top-25 Poll, extended its winning streak to seven with a 79-61 victory at UW-Whitewater Wednesday night in Williams Center. The Eagles improve to 14-2 overall and 5-2 in the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) while the Warhawks drop to 11-6 overall and 4-2 in the conference.

With the win, UWL improves to 10-0 on the road this season, including 4-0 in the WIAC.

UW-Whitewater took a 7-3 lead when UWL went on a 6-0 run to take a 9-7 advantage on Ethan Anderson's layup with 15:52 remaining in the first half. The Eagles led 17-14 with 11:15 left when they used a 10-2 run to lead 27-16 on Wyatt Cook's layup with 8:30 remaining. 

The Warhawks cut the lead to 33-25 with 4:56 left on Carter Capstran's layup, but the Eagles went on a 12-0 run to lead 45-25 on Henry Noone's three-point field goal. UWL led, 45-27, at halftime, after shooting 51.4% (18-of-35) from the field, including 63.6% (seven-of-11) from three-point range. 

Will Fuhrmann connected on a three-pointer to open the second half to give UWL a 48-27 lead. The Eagles took their largest lead of the game at 62-38 with 13:39 remaining on Austin Westra's layup. UW-Whitewater cut the margin to 66-52 with 7:19 left on a Derek Gray layup, but could get no closer the rest of the game. 

UWL shot 49.3% from the field, including 50.0% (10-of-20) from three-point range, and 75.0% (three-of-four) at the free throw line. Anderson led the Eagles with 23 points, finishing 10-of-17 from the field, including three-of-four from three-point range. Noone finished with 14 points. He went five-of-nine from the field, including four-of-seven from three-point range. Cook and Fuhrmann each totaled 10 points in the win. Cook added seven rebounds and six assists while Westra tied for the team lead with seven rebounds. 

UW-Whitewater shot 44.8% from the field, including 45.5% (five-of-11) from three-point point range, and 80.0% (four-of-five) at the line. Gray led the Warhawks with 19 points while Capstran finished with 10. 

UWL returns to action Saturday, January 22 hosting UW-Stevens Point at 7 p.m.
